We phoned to booked a table for 4 people and were told "sorry we don't take bookings for 5 or less". Fair enough, we still turned up to find the pub busy and no free tables, that's the chance that we took. However, we spotted a table for THREE reserved! When we complained and asked why they had reserved a table for 3 yet they wouldn't for 4, the waitress just shrugged her shoulders and said "I don't know". She didn't make any effort to find out, or say, I'll see what I can do. The attutide was basically she couldn't care less. We left and went to the The Limes Hotel further up and the meal was lovely, We shall never darken the doorstep of the Lion again and we will tell friends what happened to us... remember word of mouth is more powerful than any advertising!

BIG improvement, if you like ale then there is now a venue in Needham Market for you, with a good choice once settled!

Wherry and Adnams, the local bests, are well kept and there is always a quest ale to sample. The draft lager is a high quality Belgian import with additional choices of bottled ciders.

Can’t comment on the food, but the bar service was very genial!

Family dining pub on the outskirts of Needham Market. Very Busy when we visited 1.00pm on Sunday but we managed to get a table. Full menu was available from roasts to sandwiches/ burgers etc which was what we were after. Food prices very reasonable, food good and service friendly. 3 real ales were on offer, the 2 we tried, Adnams Bitter and Woodforde's Wherry, were fine. All in all an excellent pub unless you're after a 'gastro' or child-free experience. My only slight criticism was that lunchtime food service times seems very limited for such a food-orientated oub- only 12.00 to 1.55pm. I'd have thought 12-3 or even all-day food might be more appropriate.

Visited this pub on a sunday night specifically because they were doing food. There are very few pubs that risk offering food on a sunday night. Turned out to be a good decision as the food was great and beer good too, comfortable surrounding in the pub, I would have eaten outside but it's wasp season and i didn't fancy getting hassled by the little blighters. ten quid for a decent Burger, chips and pint, large portions. Staff were friendly, had to queue to order the food so I guess there are some people out there who want to eat on a Sunday evening!

A pub for families in the summer utilising the BIG garden at the rear of the house, it has plenty of parking and a real effort made with the exterior. Also has a lunchtime trade when they crank up the fryers and the grills.

However the food for the lunchtime crowd is very much “chicken in a basket” and the selection of ales and lagers were you usual Pubmaster fare, I’ll have a bottled ale please and must dash…..Service from the younger staff members was also highly amusing with the inevitable heavy sigh.!
