Somewhere to eat I think as the bar service has been pretty poor the last few times I visited.

I have been visiting in the lodge next door to the pub for over a year now. The service I have received from the bar staff & waitresses has been second to none. The food is excellent value, always hopt & very tasty. I can recommend the steak or the lamb, both are mouth watering. The wine is fantastic & they have a great selection. The breakfast in the morning is self service, but you can have whatever you want & as much as you want. If you are looking for somewhere with a great atmosphere, great food, great company & a great place to sleep try this pub. It really is worth a look 10 out of 10 for me anytime. I have never in 12 months had a bad word to say. I wouldn't travel 150 miles & stay anywhere else !!!!!!!

Decided on this venue as we were holding a small family reunion and it was located within easy driving distance for all family members.
We were a little dubious having read the previous review but were very pleasantly surprised.
The food was appetising, well presented and represented excellent value for money (there were smaller dishes available for children when we asked our waiter) and there was a wide selection of wines and spirits to choose from.
The waiting staff were lovely and even the manager came over to say hello when he heard it was our mothers' 90th birthday.
All-in-all a very nice evening and would definately recommend a visit.

This used to be a very odd pub, with the custom split between the wine and spritzer drinkers of Chigwell up the hill and the 'cold can of swan' lager lads of the Broadmead council estate - I used to work here and met my husband here so I have fond memories of the place!

Anyway, these days it is a very nice, well decorated, pleasant dining pub - the beer is okay, but the main point of the place is now the food, which has been great every time we've been. Kids welcome but not particularly catered for - they do have highchairs but that's your lot as far as special treatment is concerned.

I wouldn't come here for only a drink as the focus is definitely on the food and all of the tables are set up for eating. There is a good wine list.

There used to be a lovely garden out back but the vast majority of this has been concreted over and a Travelodge built there, now there are seats out on a front terrace where you can sit and drink, but you are less than a metre away from the A113, a very busy road, so it wouldn't be a particularly relaxing pint!
