Visited last night after disappointment at Corkers! Huge interior of fairly recently done out station pub. It looks and feels a bit stark and souless. Having said that, service was friendly and London Pride and Doom Bar were both in pretty good nick. Sky TV to watch football on a massive screen available. Food ok but nothing special.

Came in on Saturday afternoon while i had 15 mins for a train back to London.
Large pub with 3 real ales on tap, i had a pint of Doom Bar which was excellent, priced at £3.30 which i did think was a little steep, it's only £3.10 in my local in London.

Fairly empty when i visited, sky sports on the tele and maybe 7 people in total.
No compliants about this place, but i'll probably never visit again unless i really have a need to be in West Byfleet.

I do not agree with the last reviewer's condemnation of the pub, but I do feel the Catherine of Aragon misses the mark in several ways. First though, I do acknowledge that it has improved no end from the dive it once was. The old days of red lampshades, rowdy yobs and illicit dealings are well gone. It is now an acceptable place for a casual visit and a proper pint of beer - but still not quite there.
The beer is indeed overpriced for how well it is kept and the location. Still, they are trying. Interestingly, in my three visits over late summer, autumn and winter, all in the evening, I have always found it starkly lit and mostly empty. There is often a small group of locals (sometimes plus dogs) blocking the handpumps and the passageway from the front bar to the rear and for me this shows up a flaw in the layout of the pub.
If you are interested then have a look at the pub's own website, here: http://thecatherineofaragon.co.uk/image-gallery-2/. I have never seen it look like these mid day shots. In the evening it has few but glaring halogen lights that both make it dingy but also hurt the eyes ("the lights are too bright and there is not enough of them" as the late lamented Vis Stanshall might have said)

A pub definitely on the up: still clean and tidy over a year after the refurb and with seemingly a better standard of customer than a couple of years ago.

Real ale last Sunday were London Pride, Doombar, Purity Mad Goose and fff Moondance (£3.30). The Mad Goose and Moondance were in great form. The menu seemed a tad expensive but the food looked good and with generous portions.

One thing worth noting, as the football season starts again, is that they have (official) Sky Sports, an enourmous screen and plenty of room to watch the games.
