Now known as the Phoenix Bar. No real ale and nothing special about the place.

If the name doesn't put you off and the intimidating locals drawing on cigarettes outside don't put you off then you probably won't mind the even more intidating ones both sides of the bar inside! Can only be described as absolutely dreadful along with the flat beer and unkempt inside areas. Stayed long enough not to feel too threatened when walking out!! I'm staggered that places like this still exist.

JUST BACK FROM 5 DAYS IN EASTBOURNE ON WORK AND FOUND THIS GEM ON THE 2ND NIGHT.I DONT AGREE WITH ALL THE BAD COMMENTS AS I HAD A GREAT TIME ON MY REMAINING NIGHTS.GOOD REAL ALE AND VERY FRIENDLY STAFF,WHO ACCOMODATED EVERYONES TASTE IN MUSIC OR FOOTY ON THE BIG SCREENS. OK THE DECOR IS NOT TO EVERYBODYS TASTE BUT THE CHARACTER AND ATMOSPHERE MAKES UP FOR THAT.WILL DEFINATLY BE BACK.

My wife and I always pop into the nuthouse for a few jars when we are down Eastbourne. We love the decor, the pool tables and the sunny beer terrace out the back. I tend to agree with a lot of the comments on here as to the haphazard and unpredictable service we have recieved in this pub, half the time it is really friendly and welcoming and then when that sour faced ginger lady gets behind the bar she ruins it all. She is a horrible lady who needs to be retrained sharpish or just sacked. The music on the jukebox is great and they have great tellies in there to watch the footie on. This pub would get a 10/10 if they booted out some of the nasty staff and kept the good ones.
