What a lovely pub. I popped in here the other day for a couple and found it to be just the job; football on the telly, Fuller's beers in great condition, a warm welcome and some excellent live music. It's well worth a visit. JDchaser - 28 Nov 2011 23:55
Didn't like this place. Five of us came in after watching a match at the nearby football club. As soon as we walked in a variety of middle aged locals congregated around the bar seemed to be looking round and staring at us as if we shouldn't be there. I almost felt like walking stright out again. One bloke said something unintelligible to me. I think he was attempting to take the piss out of me in some way but he sounded like he'd been in since opening time and didn't make any sense. Staff were friendly enough but my pint of London Pride was pretty mediocre. The Gents toilet absolutely stank, and the door was wedged open to allow the aroma to travel towards the rest of the pub. I won't be back. Delirious_Nomad - 21 Nov 2010 10:20

The amount of effort that the new guvnor is putting into this pub deserves success. Also the London Pride is as good a pint as you'll get anywhere. LikelyLad - 4 Jul 2010 16:41
Long a neighbourhood local, toward the end of 2009 Andy & Sheelagh and their daughters arrived with ambitious ideas. It's to be hoped they succeed in their determination to rescue a pub which didn't have much going for it. Already (April 2010) they've launched evening meals, though sadly that didn't build up the business it deserved and has been dropped for the time being. They're on first-name terms with all their customers and will give a very warm welcome to new ones. Business is building and the London Pride is now as well-kept as anywhere else. Upstairs is being refurbished to become an impressive venue for live gigs and comedy nights. Downstairs the pub itself is to see some refurbishments. Quite rightly they're not aiming to take it up-market but instead to make the most of its 'proper pub' atmosphere, surely the right thing to do in an area where pubs tend toward the expensive and pretentious. If Andy & Sheelagh can turn the Freeholders round it bodes well for other pubs facing decline or closure. Worth a visit if only to see what's changed this week! NicandAds - 14 Apr 2010 03:18
