Standard Wetherspoons(good, cheap beer & uninspiring decor) with unusually friendly service. baxterfish - 29 Jan 2011 19:25
Popped in here before the Newcastle v Portsmouth match in Decemberlast year. As blue_scrumpy says, had to wait at least an hour for food and breakfasts were very popular. Sadly, I ordered burger and chips instead and it was the worst I've ever had in a Wetherspoons. Bitter was also poorly kept. Went to the Froddington Arms across the road last season and was made to feel welcome, beer was excellent and had a far better time! mr_toon - 10 Apr 2009 12:41
Typical Wetherspoons with open-plan layout. Before yesterday's match it was fairly busy. Many people were eating the breakfasts. Although the waiting time was in excess of 1 hour, meaning some (including us) were left to go hungry. Given the size and location (near Fratton station and the football ground), I would have thought they would have been able to turn orders around quicker. Instead they are probably losing out on quite a bit of business. There's the usual range of Wetherspoons real ales, plus they had Westons Organic cider on draught during our visit. blue_scrumpy - 22 Mar 2009 20:10
Feels like most Spoons, you get what you expect. As quiet as a library! aleman - 2 Mar 2008 10:41
The beer is generally not kept terribly well. The food is about average for a Spoons. This pub also attracts most of the weirdos and dysfunctional types from a wide area around it. Some of them work behind the bar. The truth is, Fratton isn't a particularly great place for a beer however you look at it apart from the Connaught or the Florist. The Froddington over the road isn't renowned for its ale these days but it is at least a proper pub and not a converted furniture shop. SJC - 30 Jul 2006 22:23
