Dropped by for a couple of pints. Still a decent enough pub though still somewhere for just a pint or two for me. This visit has confirmed how poor a beer Taylors Landlord now is - just seems bland now compared to the Tring Ridgeway.

Without a doubt this is the best boozer in High Barnet. It's got a fascinating history which you can see by looking around the building. Me and my missus get in there once every few weeks (we live about 4 miles away) and always have a great night. The beer is excellent and there's lots to choose from, the wine isn't overly expensive compared to many other pubs. Regardless of how busy it gets, you're always served quickly... and with a smile. The covered outdoor area has an open fire and the design and layout out here is first class. To top it off, every now and then the landlord will celebrate national occasions with gusto. Burns Night is a hoot as is Halloween. If you have never been, go. You'll find that it becomes one of your favourite London pubs. See you at the bar, Andrew and Sadie.

Ye Olde Mitre was our favourite pub of the day. The word 'Olde' is quite appropriate as it feels quite olde worlde. There are a number of different rooms, with a corridor leading along the side of them. Apparently it is an old coaching inn. It had a cosy feel. The ale selection was good - East London Brewery Pale, Timothy Taylor Landlord, Colchester Brazilian Coffee & Vanilla Porter, Caledonian Deuchars IPA, Adnams Bitter, Tring Brock Bitter, Charles Wells Bombardier Burning Gold & Greene King Abbot. Cider was Old Rosie. Customers were mostly solitary figures reading their newspapers. Although there was also a wedding party. A great spot for a relaxing half or pint. The porter was very nice indeed. Well worth a visit and only a short way from the tube station.

Much improved range of ales on my last visit: two milds, a porter and two IPAs. Probably now has a better choice than the Blacksmith's and it's certainly a nicer pub. Very nice in fact.

Good range of real ales and the food was very tasty. Busy on a weekday lunchtime.
Historic and characterful pub in the centre of town that's well worth a visit.

Went to the Boot one afternoon just after Christmas. Place was very busy with a mixture of shoppers and locals. I had some sort of Golden Ale which was in good condition. Had a roaring fire which is always a good sign. Food look reasonable. Service slightly amateurish, but didn't cause a problem.

I do not understand how the beer quality can go from very good to very poor under the same management, been poor for well over a year now. Shame was a good pub.

Seems to be going downhill. Beer choice not as good as it used to be and my pint of Rooster(4.5%ABV) cost £4.05 which is taking the piss. Have now decamped to the White Hart Tap which has cheaper beer and is a much nicer pub with no f***ing TVs

I have visited here before as an away rugby fans, Worthing Raiders, and had to head back as the beer was excellent before. It's still excellent, 20 pumps on, light to dark, local to national. Red Squirrel Porter is superb.

Very polite bar staff too, keep up the good work guys!

Recently refurbished pub which was quiet in mid-afternoon apart from some mothers with children. Beer was OK but somehow this place seemed to lack character. There are better pubs nearby, such as the Robin Hood

Recently modernised food oriented place.Apparently used to be a shit hole and needed a major rebranding exercise. Reasonable range of ale but very expensive (£3.90 for Castle Rock Pale Harvest). As for the food, my burger was mediocre at best seved with undercooked fries on a bit of wood (Isn't it time this rediculous fashion ended?), and my partner's tuna sandwich had stale bread. Two TVs were playing loudly with the sound out of synch along with piped music which was very annoying.
The place was, however, very busy so perhaps it's just not for me.

Now open after refurb. A very different place with very different clientele now. Emphasis very much on food I would say. Good range of ale when I visited though with the bar staff very friendly and efficient. Screens showing sport still there but more as a token compromise rather than a focus.

Good beer, well priced and well kept. It's good place to drop in after work for a pint and maybe some beer and wine to take home. A vast array of beers and an interesting selection of wines to choose from. It does lack atmosphere and thankfully 'lager-louts', but you are also likely to have to endure other people's children shrieking and running around the small courtyard as you try to enjoy a quiet pint outside, which can be worse. They were actually sitting at the bar last time I visited, so there was no escape. Some parents eh? But apart from that, it's a good idea and worth a visit.

Agree totally with the last comment. Extremely good value at £2.50 a pint and the Red Squirrel ales are excellent.

This is an interesting hybrid between a shop and a pub. From the outside it looks like a shop, but inside there are a wide range of real ales on tap, together with a fantastic range of bottled craft beers. There's also a cosy upstairs lounge and an area of decking offering a variety of drinking areas. The clientele is upmarket and you need have no fear of bumping into a lager lout in this joint. The beer was in superb condition and very competitively priced. Recommended - my only reservation is that I prefer somewhere that's more pub-like.

For those who like to knock 'Spoon pubs - look no further than here.
Tables not cleared - probably because the surface's are so sticky the plates are stuck.
The lighting is the same as when it was a cinema - you need a torch to see where you are going.
Disappointed first and last visit.

It's a Wetherspoons so you know what to expect: cheap but not what I would call a pub. My pint of Red Squirrel Hopfest was fine.
15 Nov 2015 20:41
Occupying a former cinema, this Wetherspoon's seemed surprisingly empty when we arrived at about 7 o'clock on a Saturday night after a walk from St Albans. But it steadily filled up and became pretty busy by the time we left at about 9.30. As the beer festival was on, we had plenty to choose from and the ales we had (Stonehenge Old Smokey, and Two Birds) were both excellent. Service behind the bar was efficient and friendly and the pub seemed clean and well kept.
