Beautiful pub, a taste of ye olde England. A fireplace to die for. Lovely to spend an afternoon or an evening here. Wide selection of food available all day and at a good price. Always a warm welcome. Children and dogs welcome. This is our local and it is a pleasure to set off on a dog walk and know this is our destination. Freddy our dog likes it here as much as we do!!!!

Wow, I've got to meet this Shaun bloke - he sounds too good to be true!! Never have i read such scripted Bullsh*t in my life from so many people who have only registered once in order to give The Rose and Crown and Shaun a reach around. Great comments are earnt through hard work and consistency.
To quote the last post "Shaun's wicked sense of humour, Maz's sexy dresses and Richards comedy routines!! " - someone, somewhere needs to get a grip.

Busy pub showing sports but had a decent range of ale when I visited. The staff were quick to serve and knowledgeable in terms of the ale they offered.

Had another good curry night here on Wednesday. Excellent beer(best in St Albans) with a Halloween/Autumn theme. Shame about the annoying TVs.

What an excellent pub, it has everything the punters are friendly, the pork pies are to notch. I visited on Friday and drank most of the beers that were on gravity in the public bar all were very good, the Harviestoun (Haggis Hunter) was excellent. Lastly the staff behind the bar and Mick the landlord have a smile on their faces when they serve you unlike a lot of pubs, where you greeted with long faces.

A pub on a housing estate.. not only that but the closest one to a football league ground. Not normally a good recipe but this place is a proper pub serving decent ale. Had a pint of Church End (End Reg) and Harviestoun (Haggis Hunter). Snacks were reasonably priced.... would say it is probably the best 'estate' pub in the country.

Said jukebox (with its largely appalling selection) has been renovated, with the addition of garish flashing lights, and has reappeared to cause random irritation at the Farmers Boy. Meanwhile, the largely appealing selection of ales at both pubs continues regardless. Who won?

So dissapointed to here that awful man is going to be doing his awful music quiz here.
think ill be changing /pubs, shame dat.

Is this a gay pub? It's certainly very macho and I was made to feel very unwelcome.

Solid, if touristic, pub. YOFC claims to be one of England's oldest pubs: I don't know about that, but it's certainly a decent place to have a drink. It is both centrally located, and rather well-hidden, down the hill from the Cathedral, just by the entrance to Verulam Park. A central bar area serves a front bar, rather characterless and given over to dining, and a much nicer main back bar. Highlights there include a sunken cockpit area and an impressive fireplace. Typically three ales on, including TT Landlord and Harvey's Best. I've always found the Harvey's to be reasonably, if not spectacularly, well-served. Food here is variable: I've always found it quite good in the mid-week (typically a bit more ambitious than average pub grub), but the only time I visited on a Sunday I was sorely disappointed by a very poor roast beef. The quiz on Thursdays is good fun.

Landlord served in a jug handle..... excellent food. Good service. I like this pub a lot.

If this is supposed to be one the country's oldest pubs then someone needs to save it before it closes through disinterest.

Care and attention is what this pub needs. It benefits from a great location but few reasons to visit it. Beer and food are ordinary at best. The overall cleanliness of this pub is also lacking, tables especially seem to only be cleared by customers and the tables are rarely wiped, making eating a little haphazard. The best bet with this pub is to go when its warm and sit outside!

Personally I am a true Sawbo-ite and find The White Lion to be top notch! The atmosphere is invigorating, the decor is warm & cosy, the food is amazing with a varied menu and I have always found the staff helpful. The pub has truly transformed over the past few years ( although we do miss the pool table)
Of all the pubs in Sawbridgeworth it is without doubt my favourite ( and there are quite a few)

Transformed from quite an intimidating atmosphere with the previous landlord, to what is now an incredibly welcoming and dare I say it, sensible pub. Now the football isn't shown there you can go for a relaxing drink or a meal without having to shout across the table to be heard. oh, and the food is good quality and excellent value.

The White Lion has been nicely refurbed in the last few years, but still has plenty of character. Log fires and nice furniture give it a 'homely' feel.

The staff are friendly, and there are a good selection of beers, (I've found a new one I liked). I haven't eaten there yet, but the menu looks good, and definitely appears to be popular. The acoustic Sundays are a great way to round off the weekend.
