Lovely find tucked away by the Naval College. This was our first pub in a mini crawl and worth the trip. Cracking Hardy's.
Looked like it was doing a fine trade with folks who had been yomping around the park....could get busy with kids and dogs!

Cosy pub overlooking Greenwich Park. It seemed to be the first pub open in the area at 11am on Tuesday. Harveys Sussex Old Ale & Best Bitter, Adnams Bitter and Fullers London Pride were the 4 real ales on offer. The interior is carpeted, whilst the walls have plenty of nautical pictures and artefacts to admire. Fleur de Lys were etched into the glass either side of the front door, reflecting the pub's name. A large collection of plates are stored on a shelf around the walls. Classical music was playing and the French landlady appeared fairly friendly. A peaceful oasis away from the town centre.

Very nice atmosphere in this pub when we visited on Sunday afternoon.

Nice to see some working class characters standing round the bar. Real London older bloke types laughing and joking. One even had a few teeth missing, which was strangely endearing and adorable.

Makes a change from a pub being full of 20 / 30 somethings all having Sunday lunch and half a shandy, whilst their posh twat kids run around, getting in everyone's way and generally asking for a damn good open hander.

Like us, these guys were just there for the booze.

Difficult to get a seat, but then it is Greenwich at the weekend ... and it is just 50 yards from the park.

This pub is well worth a visit, even if the only cider on offer was yet again Wrongbow.

There's a large restaurant type area at the rear of the pub, if you are into that kind of thing.

One of the better Young pubs I have been in. Could do with more staff on a Saturday afternoon.

Youngs pub in a quiet location away from the town centre. Available beers were Ordinary, Special, Winter Warmer and Richard 1st Christmas Ale. There are 2 separate bars with a garden at rear. A full range of Youngs bottled beers were also stocked. This pub seemed more popular with locals than the Greenwich Union next door. It also had much more of a homely feel and was far cheaper.

"Thankfully, this traditional pub has avoided the worst type of refurbishment from the Youngs makeover team"

Can't believe this comment from rpadam, as I was thinking the total opposite.
Hadn't been to this pub for around 8 years until yesterday.

It's totally ruined. From it's old threadbare carpets and lived in feel, to a poncy high table and stools modern rubbish.

Used to be a great pub but I hated what they've done with it.

Went to The Plume of Feathers instead, which thankfully remains a proper pub.

A bit "young couples and baby set" for my liking. May look better on a mid-week.

Meantime Brewery pub which served most of their beers in the keg variety. Although 3 real ales were on - Sambrooks Junction, Meantime London Pale Ale and Darkstar Hophead. Aspalls was the draught cider of choice. I chose the Breton Cider, which at £3.80 a bottle precluded any option of getting drunk. There is also a good variety of continental lagers and bottled Belgian beers. But I assume they are also an exorbitant price. The interior consists of a long narrow bar with a stone floor. There was also an upstairs section presumably for diners. At the rear is a garden. The food looked very nice. But I dread to think what the price was. Unsurprisingly given the prices, the clientele was fairly upper class and I doubt if there are too many regulars. Despite the better beer selection here, the Richard I next door is much more affordable.

Massive fan of Greenwich beers so this place was like Heaven for me.
Visited around 7pm on a Saturday and not too busy but a good atmosphere was had in here. Had a Banana flavoured beer which was in tip top condition and my friends also sampled some other Greenwich beers which were in good nick, well worth the visit if in the area. 8/10

The website and all exterior signs indicated this pub would open at 11am on a Tuesday. By 11:05 and after a couple of unanswered phone calls, I gave up and headed to the Plume of Feathers. I returned just over an hour later to find a nice riverside pub with a bit of a commercial/touristy feel. Butcombe Bitter and Gales Seafarers were the 2 real ales available, whilst London Pride and a beer called Trafalgar were both off. Aspalls was the cider. The downstairs bar is bare floorboards and is a bit dark. Upstairs looked a bit brighter and offers good views across the Thames to the Isle of Dogs. Most people seemed to be here for meals, with little sign of any local drinkers. Could be a really nice pub. But a little disappointing.

Called in on a Tuesday night, place was quiet and had no trouble being served. Sat upstairs by the window, fabulous view of Canary Wharf and the O2. Beer was fine. Can't comment on previous post as didn't eat and no problems encountered. Interesting old pub right on the banks of the Thames. Would definitely head back on a summers day with a chance of sitting outside although their 'beer garden' can't really be described as a garden!!

I have never felt the need to write a review on a pub before but this was awful enough to make me. The staff took 10 minutes to serve me despite it being not that busy, they didn't seem to know what to do and were painfully slow, and the girl who served me looked miserable, tried to talk to her but only got a series of one word answers back. Ordered the roast lamb and the pork belly which took ages to get to us and the meat was good but the veg was appaling, roast potaoes are supposed to be crispy, these were like boiled potatoes drenched in oil. I asked to see the manager but after waiting 15 minutes, was told that they couldn't get in touch with him but I was welcome to wait if I wanted too, which I declined to do as I really had enough at that point so we went to the Pelton around the corner and spent a lovely evening there.
I wouldn't ever go to the Cutty Sark again, seriously poor for somewhere in such a good location.

Can't stand pubs that have over 50% of the ground floor laid out for dining!
14 Feb 2011 12:54
Called in on NYD during a mini crawl of Greenwich. Busy place catering for tourists and the food trade.
Fine selection of well kept beers.
3 Jan 2011 13:36
Tourist restaurant masquerading as a pub. I thought pubs were for drinking in but over half the place was shut yesterday afternoon for non-existant diners, I must be wrong. Could be a good pub if the management buck up their ideas but at the moment, it seems to cater for tourists (i.e. give you rubbish service once in the likelihood that you won't be back). I'm not a tourist but I won't be back.

Usual characterless Wetherspoons branch. But it nevertheless stocked a decent range of ales - Fullers London Pride, Butcombe Christmas Steps, Ruddles Best, Burton Bridge Santi Freeze and Marstons Empire with Windsor & Eton Knights of the Garter having the predictable 'coming soon' sign. Westons Marcle Hill and Old Rosie were the ciders. The interior is open plan. Clientele was the usual mix of ageing alcoholics. I probably have to include myself in this! The portable heaters scattered around were giving off a fair amount of heat, making it fairly comfortable.
30 Dec 2010 20:11
Very fine pints of Phoenix Navvy, Hook Norton's Easy Weasel and Innkeepers (brewery unknown). Bog standard Wetherspoon pub with a loud and lairy reputation for weekend nights, which, fortunately, was not evident on a Thursday lunchtime.
28 Oct 2010 21:43
Not bad in comparison with other Wetherspoons, but the only reason to go there is the cheaper drinks. The staff aren't the brightest - one thought my request for a pint of "Old Rascal" cider and a coke would be best served combined in a single glass! - but they were polite and friendly. I was slightly horrified to see the poor quality inkjet printed label for "Old Empire", which put me off from ordering any ales!
