Think the bad comments for this pub need to be cleared up so..
I work in the pubs kitchen and I know exactly what goes into the food, no processed meat. As for the 'buckets of slop' those are actually potatoes being carried down into cellar. As for the bad comments about the landlord and landlady, you can only get an idea about them if you actually speak to them and FYI, they are actually very nice and great hosts.
Also about it being a doctors waiting room, the crown is one of the only pubs in horwich were it does not kick of, making it a nice pub to be. Go to any other pubs in horwich and I guarantee somebody will cause trouble.
Just because all you complainers have been in the crown once, doesnt give you the right to complain. All stuck up if you ask me :)

For whatever reason, people appear to be taking on other peoples identities to post on this particular thread. I would like to make it clear that any posts by the following person do not originate with me:
.yamato - all but identical to my user name, but with a dot preceding the letter y.
This is the first time that I have been on this otherwise excellent forum in months and I have no desire to be caught up in any juvenile nonsense.

Nicola has obviously upset some people around Horwich !

I have only been here 8 or 9 times this year and the barman that served me most of the time was helpful and friendly.

Toilets had no toilet roll and bulbs blown other than that the pub was fine for a quick stop off. A few loud mouthed drunk youths but other than swearing and talking loudly they were no harm as the pub was dead quiet. I was chatting to a regular called Pat and he said Jason who is the landlord took over earlier in the year and everyone likes him but his other good half is not well liked at all. I can't recall ever seeing her though in all the times I've been here. 6 out of 10 from me.

Oh, and the pool tables have now been restored in the vault although, thankfully, there is still no TV or piped music.

Another cracking traditional Sam Smith's boozer with their usual bargain prices and the atmosphere of a proper pub.

This pub is rare, open fires,no jukebox,an architectural gem inside and out ,and a good stout, well worth a visit.

Just reopened 6/12/2013 now called the "Ale House"! and it is just that, nothing fancy just good real ale, 10 of them at the last count, should give V & A a run for the money winning CAMRA pub of the year again!

The word on the street is that Bank Top Brewery have bought the place, if the old Carters Arms on Belmont Road is anything to go by, it should go down a treat.

Here's hoping.

While I have been critical of the new landlady in the past I'm of the opinion if she can't turn this pub around then its time to pull it down.
Good luck Christine, I wish you every success

Much better than it was but not as good as our pub the Bowling Green.

New managers should come and see us and see how to run a proper pub

Not a very nice pub to first walk into... you go through the door and its a long narrow dark corridor with the bar on one side and people sat opposite it like a hospital waiting room corridor, the people who then all stop and turn to look at you, like in an old Western. Seemed to be rooms leading off this corridor but it felt very unwelcoming, and quite cramped, and not very nice considering the size of the place on the outside!

Worried the bar staff for an excellent Blond Witch, sampled a Joey Holt and it was superb. The place to be.

Called here for a beer but could not get in the pub for smokers stood inside the entrance, they would not move to allow us in so we went elsewhere.
Note to landlord, they are smoking on the premises which means you are breaking the law!

Ever changing selection of well kept cask beers from the smaller brewers. Such a shame that the enthusiastic landlord didn't get his hands on the pub before it's modification 15 or so years ago when most of the internal walls and some of the ceilings were removed! Still highly recommended, though.
