please note - reviews on this site are purely the opinion of site visitors, so don't take them too seriously.

With train tickets booked on a Saturday to Manchester for a football match that was moved on the Sunday, I decided not to let them go to waste and headed for a day out in Stockport. This branch of Wetherspoon's was my first stop, largely because it was the only establishment open at 10am. It was also a good opportunity for a breakfast. There's nothing particularly special about this 'spoons. But it does stretch back a fair way. Despite the early hour, it was busy - so much so that regulars had formed an orderly queue at the bar to get served. If concerned by the previous review, I can confirm that Greene King Abbot was definitely on alongside other 'spoons staples Ruddles Best & Sharp's Doom Bar. Guests were Liberation IPA, Brewster's Brewer's Dozen, Evan Evans Hop Picker, Castle Rock Wheel of Fortune & Robinson's Dizzy Blonde. Ciders were Purbeck Devil's Leaf, Rich's Legbender, Weston's Old Rosie & Gwynt y Ddraig Black Dragon. Food took a while to arrive. But I think I'd just ordered at the wrong time. Note that a few doors up is the excellent Petersgate Tap. It is not listed on here. But it was my favourite pub in the town.

I visited here on Saturday 15th August 2015 to be told when I asked for my usual pint of Abbot that they don't do it. Abbot is the only beer that all the outlets stock, the only one that you know will be consistently good, if that goes then this outlet has nothing else going for it, the service is slow as are most wetherspoons.

My local and favourite wetherspoons, it might not be a looker on the outside but the staff and service make up for it. Beer selection is good and most staff try to help you out if your struggling to choose a real ale. It's a shame this place isn't located nearer to the centre as it wouldn't be that far for me to walk!

Friendly and efficient service and a good choice of cask ales. Definitely at the upper end of the JDW scale. 8/10.

In here last Saturday morning just after 10.00 and a good crowd all ready in.
Service was fine and the guest ales starting at £2.20 a pint were fine.
Number of screens showing the England v New Zealand netball match from Glasgow.

I think the previous review was rather harsh, even by Spoon standards. Was in the other night and perfectly acceptable, as you know the score when it comes to this chain of pubs. Drank an ale from Hook Norton which was extremely pleasant and suitably priced at 2.30 a pint.

If in Stockport you need never venture into this place, there are so many good pubs about and your wallet will not be punished to any great extent. A far better bet drinking here than in "trendy" Manchester, where prices have shot through the roof!

The calverts has lost a lot of it's appeal since it opened just over 10 years ago.
It used to be a good well run pub , with friendly staff and a good base of loyal customers who would enjoy the fairly priced food and drinks that were on offer .
Time has moved on sadly and the calverts court is no longer the place to go. It has turned into a hell hole , the staff are miserable and the service reflects this . There is also a large amount of drug missuse which goes on in the toilets . Avoid at all costs unless you like chavs then the calverts isn't the place to visit.

Went early doors prior to an engagement in the area and was not as bad as I thought it would be. Couple of ales on and decent. Served quickly, locals were a bit chavvy but not a problem. Could'nt comment about evenings though. Certainly not the worst JDW pub i've been in.

Visited here again this week to meet up with some friends. 5 Christmas seasonal beers were on, tried 3 and had to return 2 of them. Service horrifically slow and the best the food can be described as is 'fuel'. Horrible experience.

In the Wethers car park on the RHS I got a 95 parking ticket recently from a scam firm 'Valid Parking', which is now 150 from another debt collecting scam firm 'Roxburghe' as I refuse to pay it. The signs are not illuminated and I was there for 10 mins on a Friday night at 10 pm and it was dark.

This is a dirty scruffy pub and the toilets stink. It needs shutting down for a total make-over.

Wetherspoons, you can do better than this.

The staff are OK though.

THE PARKING SCAM MUST BE STOPPED.

i am very dissapointed to find private parking attendants hiding behind parked cars giving out parking tickets on a friday and saturday night. This has lost this pub a great deal of customers who think this is unnaceptable .six people i know have been issued with parking tickets the last 2 weeks for parking for 15mins!!! clearly 95 pound is a discrase and this pub should think about there customers wellbeing and not them selves i will not be coming to this pub again i would strongly reccomend not to park here

Ugh this pub gets worse every time I visit it. The beer range is now down to the three usuals and one guest, possibly two if you're lucky, almost always from the Marstons family. In fact the whole place generally has a whiff of sulphur about it. Not so much as a smile from any of the staff (who can blame them), and the manager is the rudest I have ever encountered at a McSpoons. Aaargh!

Don't go here if you want to relax. It's like a terminal for Stockportians to start the night off early and get hammered, with the intention of moving on to more 'glamorous' offerings of Stockport. Scallies and bog-trotters with 50 cent ringtones a plenty.

The 'Wetherspoons Experience". Generally well-priced drinks, friendly staff, microwave-pilot dinners and the working-class. This particular one get's exceptionally busy and crowded at the bar fri/sat night and it's loud with drunken chattering/ no music. It's a good place to start of prior to the crowd. However sitting out in the back on the patio is kind of like sitting on an ATS mechanics forecourt as the picture conveys.

A quiet 'spoons for a saturday night, therefore got served quicker than you'd expect. Previous comments borne out by busier local pubs.Plenty of staff on.
Large but bright pub, pint of predigree went down well and food delivered quickly.
Overall you should know what to expect with the 'spoons food, what we had was good value and delivered quickly and couldn't fault it!

New 10a.m. - 4 p.m. daytime menu Oct 2005 - "cheese burger 6.29" and no 'Two for One' meals anymore!!
What a great way to lose all your daytime customers at a stroke!
Dream on Wethers, you might as well shut-up-shop as there are loads of great pubs nearby who will snatch all your daytime meals business.
I feel sorry for the staff, inevitably some will lose their jobs.

Its a good place to start your night off, a good meeting place. The drinks are good prices. Food is really nice. But tends to get really busy at weekend and your waiting for at least 10 mins to get served.
Smirnoff - 10 Oct 2005 19:02
Atmosphere-free pub. Service is slow and surly. Food mass-produced Wetherspoon's standard.
Beachworrier - 16 Sep 2005 00:08
Most beers not available yet again on a Friday night!(17th June)
Presumably the staff are too lazy to change the barrels!
No wonder the queues are now almost non-existent; like me, customers are going elsewhere

Typical Wethers pub, a bit dingy inside
Service can be very very slow, depending on which Duty Manager is on
Tacky beer 'garden' at rear
They regularly pull the 'line-cleaning' stint on Mondays when it's busy, on the beers on so-called offer
Very regularly run of of most popular beers 'cos nobody can be bothered to put on a new barrel
On Fridays & Sat nights, it's full of half dressed female chavs
Never smokey

This is a huge pub, it seems to have everything, no smoking area, beer garden, food all day, real ales, good value pricing etc.
It gets incrediably busy weekend evenings and 100 people waiting to be served is not uncommon. Generally a good pub but lacking in character (its only 3 or 4 years old)
