I just love the feel of this pub, it looks welcoming from the outside and even more so when you walk in. The food is fantastic, the owners Nick & Lynne and so friendly and the pub is clean, warm with such a friendly atmosphere. I would reccomend this pub to anyone and everyone. You will be mad not to give it a go, far the best pub in Theale.

3 of us went for sunday lunch on the 12th of dec, (our first visit ) we had a great time, friendly welcome great atmosphere and fantastic food, we will be returning!

We were there again just last week (Gold Cup Week), popped in for a quick one, warm welcome as ever, and the beer in great condition as usual. We just wish we lived closer - keep up the good work!

Nick & Lynn are great and are very attentive, its refreshing when the person behind the bar remembers your name, remebers your drink, and says hello and goodbye. The beer is kept well, and the food is all freshly cooked, great pub, I like it

Very friendly 'hands on' landlord and landlady, both wearing Rugby shirts when I was there. 3 real ales, boring for a beer snob like me, I tried 2 of them, the St. Austell Tribute wasn't bad, the Adnams was passable. They advertise their Cask Marque credentials with gusto, work it out for yourself.

We try and make this a regular stop if we're touring the pubs of Theale. It's a cosy place and there's usually a bit of lively, if not rather mad banter going on at the bar. Nick & Lynne are perfect hosts and the 3 cask ales are very well kept. I must try the Sunday lunches, everyone is raving about them !

Only been twice of late, but find it to be a fabulous little pub. Really friendly Landlord & Landlady (Nick & Lynne) - only recently there I think. Excellent beers especially the Tribute (for me), and i hear that the Sunday Lunches are terrific, looking forward to having one on another visit. We'll be back!

Previous landlord had a nice mix of beers in a cosy, living room atmosphere. Food was pretty hearty for the price charged. I quite liked it.
New landlord has revamped the place - it isn't a bad revamp, but I think I preferred it the way it was. 3-4 ales usually on now (Youngs Ordinary, Pride, Brakspear and Courage). Again, not bad, but uninspiring compared to previous. Ale is usually in decent nick, to give them their due.
There's a skittles alley available, although I dunno whether it sees much use.
Give it a go.

A decent boozer. Usually have a couple of good beers on including Marstons Pedigree and a guest or two. I think they were doing Deuchar's last time I was in.
They have music sometimes on a Friday or Sat, so can get very busy.
Recommended.

Since my last comment (1st Feb '05) the Red Lion now has new management and is a lovely place for a beer or two (3 or 4....) On sundays they even put roast potatoes and sausages on the bar for customer nibbles.

I rate this the best pub in Theale. Good prices, good beer and good atmosphere.

Referring to the comment made on february 1st 2005. The "man" who took over the Red Lion has not barred all the locals and children are allowed in seven days a week until 8 o'clock in the evening. I know this to be true because I am the sole proprietor and the "LANDLADY" of the Red Lion, Theale.

The man who took over the red lion started off by barring all of the locals. and not allowing children in on sunday afternoons, we don't drink there anymore!
