I am genuinely shocked by the last review. The comment about the Grisd having a bad reputation in the past is odd. I have lived on Replingham road now for two years and at first I thought the Grid was a typical local working man's pub. However, after two years I can honestly say it is a haven for the truly appauling members of this community. I am self employed and often work from home. Becuase of this I am privvy to the activity of the Grid as I live within sight of and earshot of conversations which originate in both the Grid and its neighbour the Garage. The difference between the two is the standard of conversation. The disgusting language that many of the customers at the Grid too frequently spout makes even my seasoned ears cringe. And as for the fighting I have witnessed in the past two years makes me nervous even about writing this review. It is not uncommon to see the police outside the Grid and I have on occassion considered calling the police myself. Perhaps the large pub chains should think about investing in publicans who are old enough to shave and understand what it means to exercise a duty of care to not only their patrons but also the community they operate in.

The grid did have a bad reputation. However over the past year the atmosphere has improved considerably. This is a genuine community pub with a diverse range of professional clientele as well as retired people and young trades people. Convivial intelligent conversation can be enjoyed here. The staff are friendly and professional. The beers are well kept and served. Customers are consulted about their beer preferences before new products are brought in. There are negatives...it does need a refurb. All in all I regard this a a very pleasant local which we visit 2-3 times a week.

The Grid Inn is a fairly standard JD Wetherspoons pub a couple of minutes walk from Southfields tube station. Not one of their best ale wise, only one guest, and the staff don’t fill you with any great confidence. Attractive décor with loads of local photos and information.

Ha! I was a member of te barstaff here - from Feb 1996-June 1996.
It was a typical Wetherspoon when I worked there.
|
Far from the nicest place I've been, and I feared the worst on viewing the clientele. However, the very pleasant barmaid more than made up for this - why can't all bar staff be as friendly!

Good grief - this'll be the second good-to-OK review I'll have given for a Wetherspoons pub in a week. I recently went there on two successive thursday nights to eat, and it wasn't anywhere near as bad as this rating says. OK, the clientele were a teeny bit... loud and the barstaff on one occasion seemed to think I was invisible, but the food and drink was good value both times (Pedigree not too cold) and I'd go back to this place again. Is it just me?

This is probably one of the worst pub in JDWs portfolio. It's grim, grubby, smelly and full of locals and chavs. Since the smoking ban, the locals tend to stand out in the street and they are not the best advert for the pub.

A really excellent local. Beer and food spot on and you don't need a fiver to buy a pint. Keep up the good work JDW.

Unfortunately this place is a let down in Wetherspoons normally pleasant portfolio. Its ok if you're the big drunk geezer at the corner of the bar. They'll serve you before anyone else all the time. A lack of staff at crucial times ( chelsea home games) doesn't help and why are the tables always sticky and clustered with half eaten platefuls? I could go on.
|
The people go there because the beers cheap & JDW have an unofficial all is welcome policy, personally I would't be seen dead in this place or the nearby "Garage".
|
grim. sticky carpets. dim staff. stuck in an early 80's time warp. why do people go here?
|
Full of local degenerates, this place & the Garage are conveniently near the tube station which you can take a train to somewhere decent for a drink.

OKish food when I was there (quite a while ago), real ales were on (including the excellent Oakham JHB), but served a little too cold. They had a strict "No under-18s" policy at the time.

Really nasty pub. Went there on a friday night - regulars unfriendly to the point of hostility, all the tables taken up with either old men or the chav brigade. We decided to leave as quickly as possible, but had to wait 5 minutes because there was a fight going on at the entrance so we couldn't get out. Nice.

Oh my god. What else can I say............I'm of to the garage. The lure of cheap booze couldn't tempt me back. Isabella.

This place is the pits. So smokey that it is difficult to see where you are going. Definitely one for the pipe smoking, racing post, slipper brigade. Stay well clear if you have any class.

have to agree with sam. this place is pokey, smokey and so hard to get served in. the barstaff seem more interested in shouting to the very drunk regulars. i've walked out and gone to the garage next door a few times. xpensive but much better.

You will never meet more friendly and helpful staff than at The Grid. The food is excellent value too. The only downside is the amount of smoke despite the non-smoking area. Well done to all the staff!

The Grid is a brilliant pub and their sunday lunch is both a bargain and top notch.

how dare you. this pub is a bastion flagship homage to the wetherspoon chain. mocking it is like mocking a major world religion: its just not done. an exemplary public hostelry, keep up with the good work.

Weatherspoon in centre of Southfields next door to the Garage. Unfortunately attracts all the scum of the area looking for cheap booze. Very unpleasant pub full of very unpleasant people.
