Friendly welcome and efficient service. Very food oriented but with a distinct drinkers'' area. Nothing special to note about the ale save that you can have it in traditional barrel glasses. 6/10.

This is a reasonably big place but it was mostly reserved for dinners when I was in but there is a small area that seems to be reserved for mostly drinkers, the actual bar is in a U-shape. On the bar the ales were- Lancaster Red, Waterloo Sunset by Rock the Boat and Cotleigh 25. I went for the for the Waterloo Sunset at 3.10 a pint, well kept and a good beer. Not a bad place but not really a pub for drinking in.

I was there on 16th of May. The 2 or 3 peoples. Nobody in the staff look at me et said hello when I arrived. There were just 2 tables to serve for food. I waited 10 minutes and I left.

Returned here after a gap of more than 5 years on Saturday, after hearing that the pub has changed hands. Sure enough, there were 3 ales on that were more adventurous than previous selections. The Beartown Ginger Bear I tried was good. I don't recall the other two beers. It seems a bit dull inside. But it is certainly an improvement from my last visit.

Went in about 2 months ago to watch the footy. They had Black Sheep and another guest ale. I opted for a pint of Thatchers Gold which was about 3 a pint. I had to leave when the footy got to half time as I couldn't get to the bar for another pint as it was crowded.

I visited again a couple of weeks later and it was a bit quieter but I didn't really like the atmosphere. I couldn't really put my finger on what it was with this place but I prefer the pubs around the corner to this one.

Fancied a steak and it being a Wednesday,I thought I'd try the Blackburne as it offers a discount. We had two rib eye steaks which were reasonably well cooked and presented along with Cheshire Gold Bitter. The place is ok, a little sixties-ish and the furniture , I agree is a wee excentric. The only serious criticism, and this is true of a lot of places in Liverpool is that the bar isn't one that you could lean up against for an hour or so gassing to the barman/maid. It's basically an order and pay and find a niche to natter or smooch in, and not being much of a natterer or smoocher for that matter, I ate, supped up and bade the barman/maid a polite good evening. I honestly wouldn't go out of my way to go there again, but that's not to disparage it, it's just that there really are quite a number of pubs nearby which are more my sort of boozer.

I normally go to Ye Cracke, Fly In The Loaf etc in this part of town and hadn't been here in over a year. I visited last week and had an expensive pint of Tim Taylor Landlord. The pub was busy and most people seemed to be eating food from the menu. The three men serving behind the bar/standing around didn't seem to be too bothered about making me feel welcome.

So I don't think I'll bother with this place again!

First visit here last week and was impressed. Had a pint of Landlord. Pub was empty when I visited . I don't go to this part of town often so, as others have said, I combined it with a trip to Peter Kavanaghs and Ye Cracke.

Might check out this pub again next time the football is on to watch it on TV. The pubs in the city centre get too crowded when the footy is on - I get the feeling it will be more relaxed in the the Blackburne Arms (we shall see).

A mainly contemporary styled single room with touches of "oldness" in the bar counter, bar-back and fireplace, there is also some very silly furniture perhaps made for a failed production of Jack and the Beanstalk or the stage version of Land of the Giants. Six pumps but only three in use serving Landlord, Deuchars and Black Sheep in reasonable condition but not at the top of their game. Youngish punters enjoying meals and watching the three TVs when I visited. The TVs have about 7000 satellite channels, most of them unwatchable although I did notice the enticingly named Essex Babes as the bar staff feverishly searched for a soccer match, finally settling for one with Croatian commentary. Nice.

Characterful modern refurb with a choice of real ales. A bit of a hike out of the city centre. Beer and food is pricey and the pub is only worth walking out to if you continue on to Peter Kavanagh's down the road.

I wasn't overly impressed by this pub on my Sunday lunchtime visit. The interior is modern, and many people were having Sunday lunch. The food seemed pricey. I wanted a snack but the food was too expensive. There were no crisps available behind the bar. In fact the only snacks available were nuts from a machine. There were 3 real ales - Black Sheep Best, Deuchars IPA and Taylor Landlord. The only bonus for me was the Addlestones cider. Although they have managed to spoil this by adding gas. There are better pubs in this area in my opinion.

This pub has struggled a bit recently and I understand it has had to shed its 'gastro-pub' reputation. This may be a good thing, who can tell, but I know it seemed to have picked up again on my visit on Saturday. It's a pleasant place in a lovely area of town, full of old-fashioned lamps, cobbled streets and, of course, briliant boozers. Inside there is one large drinking area with pleasant upmarket features such as chandeliers, etc. It has a modern feel without any loss of character, which is a rarity as far as I'm concerned. A (very good) band was playing and the place was buzzing. About 4-5 ales on and mine was excellent, I forgot which I had! Good to see it pick up again and I hope this state of affairs continues

You may face a bit of a walk from the city centre to get here, but I promise you its worth it! As stated below, lots of choice both beer wise and food wise and all in great condition. Also, make sure you visit the other locals nearby; Peter Kavanaghs, The Belvedere and The Cracke.

Gastro Pub with a great selection of food that is well above the standard of usual pub grub. Great selection of beers on the pub. A little bit out of the city but well worth the walk up to experience this true delight

Pleasant looking pub in the Georgian quarter of Liverpool not too far from Hope Street & The Anglican Cathedral. It describes itself as a "gastro pub", but a cheap hot dog in a stodgy bun was more akin to a Blackpool burger van. I believe that this has changed hands recently & they have a temporary manager. The hotel upstairs is closed & the menu is not the one they had under the previous tenants. I honestly can't remember what the choice of drinks were like as I went in to eat more than drink, however if I don't remember then I guess it wasn't memorable. Apart from that it was clean, bright, friendly & the staff were polite.
