Not sure if this is now The Alma Brewery Tap (on the corner of Baron Street and Chapel market). the Alma brewery tap does One Mile End beers - if so had a decent pint of Docker's Delight here. They have tried to make it typical islingotn trendy but it still has a rough edge and a pub feel to it.

Why come here to play pool when you can do it the perfectly good British way in a normal pub. Loud and boring - a bottled lager throwback to 1997 when Dave Pearce ruled the airwaves and it was all about the Bedford Massive hanging out in Ayia Napa.

Where has the live music gone????There were some great rock nights here but they have all moved to other venues.

Fairly Hopeless. The kind of compromise place that pleases nobody you end up at if you're in a large indecisive group. The pool is pricey.

Apparently if you're less blind than me you can vaguely see into the ladies from the gents.

Ended up spending New Years Eve here (this was not my choice but was one of those let's try to please everyone type decisions). By the end of the night i wished I'd stayed at home. Terrible atmosphere, awful music (mainly R&B), full of chavs. Truly dismal. Next NYE I'm going to Fabric, or a party, or my local pub or staying at home watching Jonathan Ross. anything but go here again!

Fab night out here. Great rock Dj(Goldierocks). Good atmosphere. Very cute ladies. Service was good also. Went back yesterday to eat.

I have been four times this year . It is a great crowd. Always full . If it was not then why are they getting such top names? New London Music are starting a night there too? Very pretty to look at on rock nights too. All fairy lights etc .

Mate, its a HELLHOLE. Its HORRIBLE. What are you on??? There isn't a good crowd - there's a crowd of clueless people and kids. The beer is Carling, Stella, you know the drill. Its dark and dank with no natural light, cavernous expanses of soul less decor, big screen... urgh

Goldierocks Night is a great night for new bands . A gchance to see a great DJ(mtv Award show Lisbon) at a good price. Fancy drinks on offer. A great crowd.

This bar in Islington is full of rude bouncers and bar staff, especially the girls in there scanty clothes, who think they are it! At the end of the day, you are just barmaids loves not on the catwalk! Tuesday night is the best as you can get wasted at a cheap price by gatecrashing their student night without having to show student ID. Apart from that, it is not worth the outing - you might as well stay in!

Very good for live music and new bands. Goldierocks night a nice one.Very cool arty crowd but friendly , always a good night.

The Elbow Room is a cracking venue!

Really turned around its image and vibe in the last six months.. got two new cracking live rock nights: Goldierocks and Circus.

Propper old skool rockn glamour.. fairlylights, hot scenesters and even hotter DJ sets.. yeah, keep the Jack flowing..

Most ignorant doorman yet.

Early Friday evening, no queue, no one around looking like they're going in, 3 of us head to the door. Woah there! Hey you, get back. Told we can't go in, have to get behind the curtain-rail door barrier (a la tiger tiger) - because bouncer has to count the number with his counting machine.

Then he goes to help barman get ice out of a van, expects us to wait. Doorman big chap, close shaved beard. Possibly failed Standard Grade Arithmetic, given the counting machine requirement. We we're shabbily dressed, all with shirt, shoes and decent denims and jackets.

We're not interested in standing about a skanky street in Islington, so we head back to Upper street to spend our money. License holder, sort your door staff out. Appears from the other reviews the rest of the staff have some issues too. Won't be hurrying back.

The only saving grace of this place is the pool tables, although you always have moody pre-pubescents knocking around. The amount of aggro going on for a Tuesday night was scary to put it mildly.

Cool place, until 7 it's 6 an hour for pool table, after 7 it's 9 - which is reasonable. 2 for 1 on Carling, Coors and cocktails from 5 til 8 which meant we had a laugh Friday. Chilled atmosphere during the day with some sweet soul music. Came back later when it was more lively after a few in Lloyds for a 3am bar and good tunes, some dancing and some cute gals.
Check it out.

Not impressed at all! The staff are rude, the bar is too hot and the decor is seedy. the food is not too great and the drinks list is limited, also don't bother booking the VIP room, at 30 an hr, it's not worth it at all!!!!

fairly big polace lots of pool table space compared to the west london branch. got quite lively on weekend i went. not bad!

Good place although very busy. Went there for Eng v Turkey good atmos, few rugger buggers but not too many. 2 for 1 beers won me over as did nice sorts to look at when footy boring.

There is one in Curtain Road, near Liverpool Street. whether it's the same chain i can't say, but it's quite good.
anonymous - 18 Jul 2003 13:59
Liverpool St?? All in your head
There is one in Swiss cottage and one in Bayswater.
jim - 29 Apr 2003 15:20
It's getting a bit old - needs a refit. Bouncers are v. annoying - carpet round pool tables is disgusting - floor and my shoes covered in chewing gum!! Clientele has gone v. down market! New Elbow room near Liverpool St is far superior.
Will - 4 Mar 2003 17:15
It's not that expensive (2 for 1 on beers before 8), I didn't even notice the bouncers (you ponce) and it is open late.
The food is also good.
Perhaps you should go to a Wetherspoons which has ample seating grandad.

The barmaids are fit too...

JamesP - 1 Nov 2002 15:34
It's open late, but that's the only good thing. V expensive, full of people trying to look really cool (and failing hilariously), scary bouncers, negligable seating. Maybe i'm too old.
james - 11 Oct 2002 13:29
open till 3.....
