Lived in but totally agreeable pub. Coniston Bluebird at 3 quid was lovely, my wife had coffee in a cafetiere. People in, coal fire, top beer, a proper pub.

One of the last pubs I visited when I first came to Bowness, how I wish it was the first! A real drinkers pub, not a pub trying to be 'gastro'. Although they do offer good quality, good tasting grub and offer accommodation I tried neither of these focusing on the well kept beer.

A new brewery to me, The Coniston Brewing Co. I tried the Blue Bird and found it in excellent form, in fact I have tried nothing else since but if the Jennings Cumberland and the Timmy Taylors are as good I'm missing out!

Friendly locals, friendly and helpful staff too and positioned within 5 mins walk of my digs! Perfect. Keep up the good work Folks!

Remains an excellent pub. Had a lineup of six cask ales, and I can vouch for a good Bluebird Bitter. Also on were Tetley, Pedigree, Cumberland Ale, Cocker Hoop and Landlord. Food was excellent for hungry hikers.

We arrived in Bowness and decided to look for some decent pub grub. This pub had lots of customers, inside and out and looked like a good bet. We were served by a friendly young lady, who was extremely busy, but was very smiley and professional. We decided to have our meals indoors, as the heat was overpowering hubby.
It is a very family-friendly pub, with lots of toys and games provided to keep little ones busy, however, it could do with a refurb in places, some of the decor was rather tired and scruffy.
Our meals arrived promptly, hubby was delighted with his Mixed Grill, however, the quiche I had ordered was nothing short of disgusting. Perhaps I had just picked the wrong item from the menu that particular day, but we did not return.

Enjoyed this one for its good beer and service.

Apart from the artex and a slightly odd smell, I really liked it here. Six beers in good condition, 3 locals plus Landlord, Tetleys and another, all around 3. Friendly, open fire, hearty, averagely priced food. One of the best in Bowness.

Decent enough pub and obviously well liked by locals but the service on Friday past was a shambles. Just now every pound is a prisoner and every pint could be the way into a few pints and maybe a whisky or two and then something to eat. But not with only one barman and more than a dozen people at the bar. The hand-pulls were falling over like dominoes, but fair is fair, the Mothbag was very good indeed.

Really nice pub with good beer - Coniston Bluebird on my visit. Always visit when I'm in Bowness.

A good old local pub, plenty of beers an and freindly staff. One of the better pubs in the area.

Friendly pub with 6 Real Ales, mostly local. Beer kept well and rotated regularly. Didn't try the food but noted the chips were like house bricks!! Pity the carpark and beer garden are one and the same!

Excellent range of real ales. well kept. Makes a nice change to have something other than the ubiquitous Jennings to sample,

Dreary, rundown pub catering to the bottom end of the tourist market and to locals who want a big screen for football that takes up one wall. Only had a bap each but they were tasteless and the salad was awful - being served on hot plates (why?) can't have helped. Bluebird bitter was OK, tho.

A popular local with about 6 handpumps, the ale I tried (Tiger and Cumberland) was kept fine.

The food is also excellent, very good value for money. Probably the best pub to eat in, in the area.

Imposing Pub out of the general hurly burly of Bowness. Good patio seating area plus plenty of room inside. Decent if not great Real Ale with Coniston Bluebird as a regular. Handy for a breather.
