Hi. I'm a different new landlord at the Duke of Beaufort! In reply to the previous post I would just like to say that Real Ale will definitely be back at The Beaufort! I have ordered up some Laines Best and Dark Star Hylder Blonde which, all being well, will be flowing by Saturday evening (22/09/12). A 3rd pump will be appearing shortly and my aim is to gather enough ale drinkers to have them all flowing with good quality local ales asap. I have worked for Wye Valley Brewery so I know good beer and I will do my best to make sure The Beaufort always has exactly that.

So please come back and visit us soon.

Cheers, Gordon.

Perhaps the new landlord, below, can explain why there are no longer any real ales in the pub, as before he took it over, they sold well, with Camra visiting it on their Hanover pub crawls.

Hi,
Hi I'm the new landlord for the Duke of Beaufort. Since taking over I have introduced some exciting new changes as well as keeping some of the original charm in this classic pub!

Firstly we have a newly decorated beer garden with a large flat screen T.V showing all-major sports on SKY and ESPN. See also our very large indoor projector screen ideal for the big games!

We have a chef cooking outstanding Indian food and a curry and pint offer of ONLY 7.50!!

Happy hour remains and we have drinks specials throughout the week. We also have an NHS and NUS discount for hardworking nurses and (lazy/hardworking?) students!!

We have new weekly events including poker and pool competitions and pub quiz with potential jackpots reaching 50+.

All of our team has worked very hard to create a new warm and welcoming atmosphere in our pub accommodating everyone including students, families and hard working locals.

We happily invite you to come see the new and improved Duke of Beaufort and welcome any comments or suggestions you may have about our pub. We look forward to seeing you soon and reading your reviews.

Happy drinking!
The team at the Duke.

Very cheap happy 'hours' during weekdays.
Kronenberg 2.30
Strongbow 1.75
John Smiths 1.25

Trying to shake off the 'old' image

Down to 1 pool table now.

Good old fashioned pub with two pool tables. Shame the bar is so big, would be better with public bar and lounge, but overall an ok pub for a drink. The landlord is very good and the staff are generally welcoming. The beer could be a bit better, but there are usually a couple of ales to choose from.
Only real downside is the proliferation of Chelsea fans, so avoid when the Blues are on telly.

Have to disagree I'm afraid.

I thought the place was horrid.

Very smoky. Different sports on every telly (and it wasn't even during a football/rugby/cricket match).

We ordered food and 15 minutes later the girl came back and told us she couldn't find the chef so would have to refund us our money.

One I'll be avoiding in the future

Love this place! Very big street corner pub that is decorated as a pub should be. Traditional interior, clean, warm and friendly, people actually talk to strangers in here. If your ever in this part of town make an effort to get in here before some numb nut comes up with the idea of "improving" it.
