I found out that the royal oak was having a beer festival on the day we travelled from kettering to alfreton (for a quality football match!) I gave the landlord a ring a couple of weeks before hand to check he was ok to accomodate our minibus crew, he was, being courteous and helpful (which some landlords in this time of recession would be best to take note ) During our 3 hour stop off we had some great beers, met with friendly staff and locals. a top pub.

If you're within 20 miles of Ockbrook for whatever reason, you have no excuse not to try the Royal Oak! Wonderful place. Book for Sunday lunch though!

I love this place. So much in fact that the family have hired out the function room twice in the last year to hold parties, even though we live miles away! The staff are always incredibly friendly and always greet you with a smile, plus I've never had a less than perfect ale in here. It's also a multi room pub which always makes it seem that little bit more special. A perfect example of what a great British pub should be.

Late review from October when we went to the beer festival and it was as excellent as last year's. No problem with beer selection and quality or the food.

Beer good and french folk dancing interesting. Found the food very bland and not great quality although I had heard it was good. Would not go again for the food but entertainment wise great

What a wonderful pub with helpful friendly staff. We went for their beer festival for the first time and the beers and food were first class. Such a good choice to be enjoyed.

Old trad pub well worth a visit. 3 everchanging guest ales allways in good condition. Tasty homecooked food plain and simple at a good price. Beer fest in October. Great atmosphere on Boxing Day with music and dancing outside plus music and other events through the year.

Great old pub. Nice beers. Nice location in the centre of Ockbrook. Ockbrook Big Band plays here often on a Sunday evening. Great swing band - whatever happened to that great bari sax player.
