I found out that the royal oak was having a beer festival on the day we travelled from kettering to alfreton (for a quality football match!) I gave the landlord a ring a couple of weeks before hand to check he was ok to accomodate our minibus crew, he was, being courteous and helpful (which some landlords in this time of recession would be best to take note ) During our 3 hour stop off we had some great beers, met with friendly staff and locals. a top pub. rob372 - 6 Nov 2011 16:38
If you're within 20 miles of Ockbrook for whatever reason, you have no excuse not to try the Royal Oak! Wonderful place. Book for Sunday lunch though! dpaajones - 7 Feb 2011 18:04
I love this place. So much in fact that the family have hired out the function room twice in the last year to hold parties, even though we live miles away! The staff are always incredibly friendly and always greet you with a smile, plus I've never had a less than perfect ale in here. It's also a multi room pub which always makes it seem that little bit more special. A perfect example of what a great British pub should be. jarofporter - 21 Sep 2009 00:15
Late review from October when we went to the beer festival and it was as excellent as last year's. No problem with beer selection and quality or the food. gillhalfpint - 17 Jan 2009 11:37
Beer good and french folk dancing interesting. Found the food very bland and not great quality although I had heard it was good. Would not go again for the food but entertainment wise great Grifpa - 31 Jan 2008 09:35
