Rough as arseholes boozer off Friargate. Formerly a must visit in Preston but now the opposite.

Sadly this place has gone down the pan. Boarded-up window and Smiths, Fosters and Guinness 'choice'. A great shame the way the place has gone. No longer worth a look.

How the mighty have fallen! Used to be the best pub in Preston. Now a dirty, horrible bar more suited to the WKD drinkers. Apparently "8 beers on tap" Never seen more than 2 (Pedigree, London Pride)

NOW CLOSED - Local Rumours it is to be bought by the manager of the local oddbins and turned into a winebar.

Another good recent visit, a couple of Salamander's tried and were ok. Friends in attendence had problems with an awful tasting cider (washing up liquid) - on sending back the barman did highlight that it was supposed to taste as such!!!
Still far from convinced about the new decor. The back room by the pool table must have the biggest lcd tv known to man (in comparasion to size of room).

Impressive choice of unusual ales. Good for an early evening game of pool. Not so good when we tried to return on Saturday night but couldn't even get to the bar. The introduction of sofas has reduced the number of seats. The tables near the pool table are cramped making it difficult to access those seats as well.

Recent decor change - ? for the better.Still an excellant choice of real ales and real cider.
On recent visit the beers where in good nick.

Excellent pub just off the city centre. Has an excellent range of real ales on handpump and straight from the cellar, all in tip-top condition. Offers food, has a pool table and attracts a wide variety of customers. Always a friendly atmosphere and friendly and efficient service. A must visit when in Preston.

My husband and I came from Canada to the UK for a holiday. Preston is my mum's hometown and we stayed and toured the town for 2 days. We didn't discover this little gem until our last day in town.
We were so impressed by the food and friendly atmosphere.
It was the best Lancashire Hotpot I'd ever had (even better than my mum's).
We still talk about that pub even now. I gave the landlady a pin of a Canadian Maple Leaf...hope she still has it, and I hope to return to Preston someday.
An amazing town, with amazing people!

Great place. A bit of a CAMRA joint but none the worse for that. They always have a good selection of guest ales from across the UK. The place is small and popular so it can get a bit crowded but this is no big put-off. I'm a bit mystified as to why, with such limited space, they give over so much of it to a pool table. Nobody I know goes there specifically to play pool. Also, they have a folk night from time to time and even if you want a quiet drink with music in the background this can be problematic - it's so small that whether you are near the singer or not the music inhibits any conversation. This again is no big disadvantage and this is high on the list of must-visits for visitors to Preston. A lovely pub.

You can tell they take good care of their ales in here. Really good old-fashioned pub. Won't be popular with people who are into flashy chain bars but that's part of the appeal. A real bloke pub

I popped in here yesterday and enjoyed a fine 5% Wigan beer. There were perhaps 4 or 5 other beers (changing guests, it turns out) and an atmosphere which suggested that beer quality mattered to bar staff and customers. The pub is fairly basic and fairly small with 2 rooms, one of which is for a pool table. It isn't open all day but it is a really good beer orientated, Camra type pub.

A nice traditionl pub, good cheap food, beer is good & well kept, jukebox as well. The pub is well placed for students & anyone doing the Friargate circuit which is better than town any day. Lamb & Packet could do with being a bit bigger

Nice friendly pub with lots of reasonably priced, well kept ales. Only discovered it recently but it will be a firm fixture in my Preston pub circuit from now on!
