A great friendly and traditional pub with a superb range of well kept ales GaryReggae - 12 Sep 2007 12:28
Great place. A bit of a CAMRA joint but none the worse for that. They always have a good selection of guest ales from across the UK. The place is small and popular so it can get a bit crowded but this is no big put-off. I'm a bit mystified as to why, with such limited space, they give over so much of it to a pool table. Nobody I know goes there specifically to play pool. Also, they have a folk night from time to time and even if you want a quiet drink with music in the background this can be problematic - it's so small that whether you are near the singer or not the music inhibits any conversation. This again is no big disadvantage and this is high on the list of must-visits for visitors to Preston. A lovely pub. brucknerspen - 2 Apr 2007 15:23
You can tell they take good care of their ales in here. Really good old-fashioned pub. Won't be popular with people who are into flashy chain bars but that's part of the appeal. A real bloke pub flanaldo - 28 Dec 2006 14:06
I popped in here yesterday and enjoyed a fine 5% Wigan beer. There were perhaps 4 or 5 other beers (changing guests, it turns out) and an atmosphere which suggested that beer quality mattered to bar staff and customers. The pub is fairly basic and fairly small with 2 rooms, one of which is for a pool table. It isn't open all day but it is a really good beer orientated, Camra type pub. drtimthornton - 12 Dec 2006 21:38
