Visited last night with some friends for a couple of hours, very good by any standards and it was almost full to the brim but I must admit superseagulls (below) has got a point on price. That said, I don't know of a nicer and cleaner looking saloon bar anywhere near here. I must be getting old, those glittering copper topped tables and memorabilia really do something for me ! 8/10

Gone slightly down hill of late you only seem to fit in if your a local here.
The beer is very pricey but what pubs arnt?
Food is very basic and not cheap either!
Good meat raffle on a Sunday but beware the pub shuts at lunchtimes (get with the times and stay open all day).

My wife and I visited this little gem recently and were astonished by its exceptionally high standards.

The Pub itself has significant historical importance by its name - see local history for further details. To find it is relatively easy, just off the A24/A27 and parking is easy.

It has two main bars and various facilities for functions but the 'jewel in the crown' is the saloon bar. It's cosy and beamed (genuine) supporting a wide range of interesting artefacts arranged in a pleasing and organised way. Furniture and fittings are better than average with the copper topped tables adding a warm glow.

The menu is well above the norm with fresh joints cooked daily and very reasonably priced with daily specials adding value to a wide choice.

Wines and spirits are as you can imagine all in the 1st division with Abbott leading the way in the ales.

The custom base is what could be termed as a discerning group of quietly spoken sensible people who were immediately friendly to us and this led to a mutually interesting conversation.

To the tourist, come down the A24 to the roundabout that joins the A27 and go straight across (2nd exit).

Take the first road on the right (The Plantation) and turn left at the end of that - Ye John Seldon is on your right.
