The two lines by beermunster hit the nail on the head.

I suspect it only looks so busy because it is so small, there is little that makes the place attractive unless you like looking at barmaids, and they aren't to hot.

This certain serves the worst pint I have had the displeasure of drinking with London, that being great london, not just the city.

I get the feeling, the landlord just doesn't give a monkeys. I'll be shocked if Wells and Youngs do no force him out soon.

The Still and Star, Aldgate

I think the best description is �scruffy little back street boozer�, it is exactly that and pretends to be nothing else.

The staff are reasonable, you do however get a far better reception and service if you face is know. The ale is pretty standard by its selection and by London standards acceptable.

As for the staff making comments, I think the �we� and the �website coming soon� in the last post supports this. I like a great pint in a welcoming Pub. I think I�ll stick to the Peacock down the road whose owner recommended it for a quiet one, which it is. Perhaps the staff here could take a few lessons from the staff there.

All in all, given that I gather they have only just set up shop, so to speak. I do hope they improve their customer service skills quickly. Knocking up the standard of the ale served would not go a miss either. Good luck to them. As my old school reports always said �Must try Harder�.
