The Wellington Arms, Watford

A few minutes walk to Watford national rail station.

Went here to watch Chelsea vs United season clincher as I had heard there were a number of big screens. I wasn't disappointed - there were indeed lots of screens and we won 3-0. Nice interior and leather sofas. Simple food menu, could do with another veggie option (even it's just a burger), but what we had was nice.

Beer is also important and it fares quite well. They had Rebellion Mutiny (rare, good condition), Courage Directors (good condition) and London Pride. Hopefully there's always a guest beer on.

Southern Cross, Watford

I've been here a few times, primarily for the quiz, which was quite a challenge but lots of fun.

It's a large pub with a modern light and comfortable interior. Lots of seats and always popular when I've been in. I hear their food is nice too but haven't tried it myself.

Beer wise (always up there on the importance list) it's above average, with Duchers IPA (v.good) and a few other guest ones. However it seems having a few beers off is a regular event, so you can't guarantee you'll get the 4 or so real ales you'd find on a good day. Maybe I've just been unlucky but I've had to move onto Guinness on one occasion.

Recommended but for a pub this size I'd expect more reliability on the beer front.

The One Crown, Watford

Only one real ale on offer - Trings' Jack O' Legs for a long time as far as I know - but has a reputation for being well kept.

A number of TVs for watching sport and very nicely decorated. The central bar naturally divides the pub and there's a pool table in the far corner.

It's a pity there's only one real ale on; if they upped it to 2-3 this would make a big difference, as everything else is good. There are very few decent pubs in Watford so it's worth checking this place out.
