The Black Lion, Hammersmith

Decent enough but laughably overpriced pub near (but not on) the river.

I used to like this place for being a bit quieter than the other riverside pubs, but after being charged �2.40 for a blackcurrant & soda (= fizzy water) and �10.50 + 15% service (since when does one pay service in a pub?) for a fairly ordinary burger we won't be returning.

'A little bit of posh by the river' practically says 'average quality but overpriced' so we should have guessed.

The Windsor Castle, Kensington

Slightly self-conscious in its authentic tweeness and crowded such that it's often hard to get a seat, but still a nice pub and well worth a visit.

Red Lion, Ealing

The best pub in Ealing - spacious but cosy, with very decent beer, alright food and a good atmostphere aided by the photographic reminders of its cinematic past.
