The Regency, Harrogate

This place is the absoloute dogs!!! I used to go there when i was at school and about 10 years later when i went back to work in harrogate! I totally love this pub, the staff have always been amazing the prices are good enough its in a pretty good location it has a juke box pool table and pretty much any kind of beer you want. On top of that this is a "proper" pub not like those half arsed neither here nor there places you get these days. Granted if you smoke you do have to be brave and venture outside into the cold as there is no shelter for us social leppers but this pub is the nuts!

The pub is a very nice pub and in the right hands could be the place to be. The problem is the family that own it, all they seem to want to do is talk at you about their "achievements" and low and behold if you want to talk about anything else.
There is an older woman working there (the mother i think) and if she deceides she does not like you for no apparent reason you will be lucky to even get eye contact let alone some service. There is man on the bar (part of the family aswell i think) who has the personality of grated cheese and then there is "the chef" John who for a man who fries fish and chips does'nt half go on like he is gordon ramsey. and is another one who talks at you about how great he is when you really could be doing other things.

This is a really nice "proper pub" no real themes to speak of except the real ale concept. It is a small cosy pub and has a nice atmosphere food is often laid on for the quizzes and sometimes the bands. The staff are friendly enough and the place is clean. The customers seem to be all students and older people so no trouble. The only 2 downsides are if you smoke there is no covered heated smoking area so you have to stand outside in the wind and rain with no protection at all. But for me the biggest problem here is that if you are not a real ale drinker you seem to be subsidising those who are. By this i mean a pint of a real ale is around 2.30 - 2.50 but if you want a pint of Kronenbourg its 2.90 they dont even charge that much at pubs in Newcastle city centre. That aside this is a nice little pub that is quite often full.
