The Wellington, Wellington

A great shame. My ancestor the Duke would be very disappointed with his namesake pub in Wellington. Just as the Flavour of Herefordshire accolades were being nailed to the wall at the front of house, the standards in the kitchen fell through the floor. On a recent visit the chef managed to dress lamb as mutton by seriously overcooking it and foisted on us boiled potatoes instead of the roasted variety boasted in the menu. The poor old Wellington has met its Waterloo.

The Victory, Hereford

Yes indeed, the good ship Victory has been holed below the waterline. The grog has gone off (tasks like they threw the old spinning dog's body in the brewing vats) and the crew stand by to repel boarders (by not changing the bed linen).

Saxty's Cafe Bar, Hereford

This place is even more pretentious than I am, but doesn't have the class to back it up. The owner, in his own desperate way, peppers the reviews with laughably optimistic descriptions of the ambience. Best avoided.
