Lewinnick Lodge, Newquay

We have just got back from 5 nights in Newquay, and this was the only pub/restaurant we went to twice, because we enjoyed it so much. Just the right balance of delicious food, good presentation/decor/layout, varied daily specials, friendly service and the most amazing views from the Pentire headland. Go about an hour before sunset, have a drink or two on the terrace (indoors if wet...) and watch the sun go down. Then move inside for dinner. Recommend booking for the restaurant at weekends.

Agree with Mr. Monkfish, don't tell everyone. We don't go to this pub as much as we used to as we've moved a bit further away. I admit, every time I go in I expect the regulars to turn and stare/mutter, but it's not like that at all - it's friendly in a low-key way. Total relief from the hell of Upper Street.
And it will forever be linked in my mind with watching Liverpool win the European Cup in May 2005.

The Talbot, Kingsland

It's OK - nice enough pub, shame about the regulars who can be faintly annoying. Hence it didn't become our local although we live close-ish by. I'd go to the Northgate instead if you're near Southgate Road. No cocktails in the Northgate, but better food and wine list.
