Pier Hotel, Ilfracombe

Evidently modernised recently with a shabby chic atmosphere, this could have been a pretentious place but in fact was perfectly okay, with friendly service. The local Wizard White Witch at 4%ish, was moreish. I wouldn't have minded if they had changed the "music" to something more traditional although they did manage to educate me by playing "Delgadito"!

The George and Dragon, Ilfracombe

The oldest pub in Ilfracombe and it shows, with a bulging front wall going back to the 14th century! Comfortable and welcoming inside with some nice local beers.

The Ship and Pilot, Ilfracombe

Potentially a good neighbourhood pub. It looks promising from the outside; the interior is unmodernised which is fine if beer is the priority. What put us off, and apparently some other visitors, was a local bloke who was effing and blinding like no tomorrow. There are places for people like that but not in the Ship & Pilot.
