Potentially a good neighbourhood pub. It looks promising from the outside; the interior is unmodernised which is fine if beer is the priority. What put us off, and apparently some other visitors, was a local bloke who was effing and blinding like no tomorrow. There are places for people like that but not in the Ship & Pilot. 16jamesdoc - 12 Aug 2017 09:17 |
Polite & efficient staff, friendly locals. Good range of ever-changing ales and a large range of ciders. Ales I indulged in included GT North coast IPA, GT Blonde Ambition, GT Dark Horse, GT Thirst of Many, Clearwater Dympsy, Wychwood hobgoblin, Exeter Brewery Ferryman, Exmoor Stag & Dancing Duck's Quack Addict, allwell kept. Also indulged in 5 ciders including Rum Cider, a cracking pint. There is not a smoking area but glasses can be taken to tables placed out at the front of the pub. All in all, a pub I would recommend. alehippy - 20 Sep 2016 20:21 |
This a proper locals pub and not pretending to be anything else. There's always a good selection of local-ish beers and ciders plus all the other stuff. They have Sky Sports for all the big games and generally-speaking staff and customers are a friendly, if slightly off-beat, bunch. It's my pub of choice in town. johnthechef - 28 Sep 2014 23:05 |

Like @beerface, we were lured in by the recommendations from CAMRA (big signs outside talking about CAMRA Pub of the Year etc). A bit disappointed, really. Not very comfortable inside, and although there was a good choice of beer, what we had was nothing special. Perhaps we'd been spoiled by having really superb beer recently at two other Devon pubs - (OK, if you're interested, the Chichester Arms at Mortehoe and the Green Dragon at Stoke Fleming). davercox - 17 Oct 2013 11:19 |
