The Swan Inn, Liverpool

First time in this pub on Tuesday night. After a couple of hours of supping Hydes Original and Phoenix Hopsack which was in excellent form amongst the rockers and superb jukebox I made the mistake of ordering a pint of the Geek Brewery 'Geek Unique'. It certainly was unique in that it was rancid, I mean really sour and totally undrinkable. I politely told the barmaid who told me it tastes like that and no one else had complained ! I tried again and was told again it was not 'off' and that she would not change it ! Unreal ! All my drinking years i've never been spoken to by anyone behind a bar as obnoxious as this. I left the beer and ordered another pint of Hopsack which she left with a 1 and 1/2 inch head which i had to ask to be topped. She went ballistic and snarled at me for some reason...... An appalling experience. Another pub to avoid and spread the bad word about unfortunately.......
Will stick to 'The Globe' in future which was excellent all round.

The Yorkshire Terrier Inn, York

As one of my favourite pubs in York, i dropped in last night on my way from an excellent as ever visit to the Maltings & Blue Bell. It had been 4 weeks since i had been in here and had had a bad experience with the barman in this much changed pub.
Oh dear........the place was empty, i mean empty, still gone were the friendly bar staff and in their place was some 'meathead' as my missus described him ....the same bloke as 4 weeks earlier...
I had a pint of York Guzzler which was good although it was chilled and was served a good way short of a full pint. I asked it to be topped up and he reluctantly did so but made a grumpy comment..
During our 30 min he kept staring at us in a sort of scary way, my missus was very uncomfortable so we supped up and left. As we departed he just stared, never said thankyou or even acknowledged our presence ! Extremely rude.
Whats gone on here ? This was a vibrant little pub with a great atmosphere and a regular clan of friendly barstaff. It's now dead and if this guy treats his customers the same as us, you can see why.
Will not visit again. 2/`10

The Baltic Fleet, Liverpool

Went to the Baltic the other night for the first time. Must say I was bracing myself considering some of the comments on here.. However I was very impressed. The bar staff were excellent as was the beer quality.

Doctor Duncans, Liverpool

Visited on Friday night expecting some fine Cains ales....Oh dear. The Bitter was as flat as a fart and the IPA was not much better.
Last time I was in here (6 months ago) it was superb. Maybe I picked a bad day ?

The Marble Arch, Manchester

Visited the other day. Superb pub (been visiting for 25 years) but the prices are ridiculous now. Beer quality was excellent as was the food but even this is now 'masterchef' stuff ie small portions at ridiculous prices. Would seem its turned into a 'bankers/city workers' establishment who can afford these prices.
Can we have our old Marble Arch back please ?............

Willy's Pub and Brewery, Cleethorpes

Been in a few times recently and must say the beer quality appears to be improving. Willys bitter still tastes different everytime you go in though !

The Bootlegger, Cleethorpes

Popped in for a pint the other Friday night, first time in years. Full of yobs and my pint of Black Sheep Bitter was like pure vinegar.
Escaped quickly !

The No 2 Refreshment Rooms (Under the Clock), Cleethorpes

Would agree with the last comment. The place always seems to be frequented by drunks and the beer quality is often appalling. All the brews (bar one) are from the 'global giants' ie Worthington, M&B, Hancocks etc and are served freezing cold and taste metallic for some reason.
Tend to stay away from this one but pop in every now and again in the hope it has improved.
It opens quite early on in the morning (8ish I think) and on que, the local characters appear.........
How on earth it is in the GBG is beyond me, let alone the winner of the best pub in Cleethorpes......more than once !

The Maltings, York

Excellent boozer. Always found the landlord sociable and his staff very pleasent and efficient. The beer is always superb (if a little pricey) although the price of food is much kinder on the pocket and of huge portions.
Can get rowdy at times but always a good atmosphere. 8/10

The Bon Accord, Glasgow

Went to this pub for the first time in about 8 months was was totally disappointed with the beer quality......Arran Blonde was very 'green', Caley 80' was awful. There was another Scottish brew I had that was 'green' too although the Deuchars was good.
A great shame as I love this pub and have never had anywhere near a bad pint before in dozens of visits......made a hastily retreat to 'The State' ......!

Willy's Pub and Brewery, Cleethorpes

Been going to this pub for years. Once served superb condition beers and held mini beer festivals but over the last year the quality has gone down hill.
Real Ale is far too cold and the Willys Bitter has a different taste everytime you try it ! There is no consistency which is bizarre as a CAMRA guy brews it !
Very poor considering it is brewed 15 yards away.
Other beers are not kept well either.
The food is of excellent value and quality.
Still the best pub in Cleethorpes by a mile which doesn't say much about the remainder.....
