The Preston Brewery Tap, Brighton

Well, since Adrian's informative comment a long time ago, I can tell you that the place has changed. Although the decor certainly hasn't, it's due for a refit very very soon. The Landlord told me that the bartop (a dodgy copper affair) had been there since 1970-something, so he was more than please to get shot of it.

The beer is nice, not overpriced at all, considering the other pubs around this area (Park View, Crown & Anchor etc) are around the same price. Not seen the hard looking teenagers frequenting this place, but the people there seem friendly enough.

The Druids Head, Brighton

Brighton's oldest pub, so they claim, but looking at it, they're probably not wrong. Lovely ales, have met visitors to Brighton here many a time as it's too easy to find and if you don't know where it is, everyone else does, so ask for directions.
As with all good pubs, there is a down side... It has been known to close at 11pm.

The Cobblers Thumb, Brighton

Surprisingly large, considering what it looks like from outside. Nice Aussie theme, but can't remember if the beer was any good as I got too hammered. So must have been good.

The Battle of Trafalgar, Brighton

Nice ales, not that far up the hill from the Station. Certainly a better choice than Grand Central (The old Finnegan's Wake pub)

The Black Lion, Brighton

Quite an expensive pub. All decked out with stone and wood, which does make it pleasing to the eye, but sadly, not the pocket. Not overly keen on the beer they did have on pump at the time of my visit, so stuck to my fallback (Guinness) at 2.90 a pint.
Only reason why I was there really was to check out their free WiFi access, which rocks. And rocks hard.

The Bath Arms, Brighton

Nice selection as pointed out before. The only problem is that it is IN the Lanes, so if you're out on a Friday / Saturday night, it's going to be half-full of stag and hen parties, probably on their way to Horatio's on the Pier.
Weekdays are normally pretty good, DJs and quizzes some nights as far as I can remember.

The Basketmakers Arms, Brighton

Fantastic pub, if a little cramped sometimes. The legendary Sunday Lunches there are, well, legendary. Enough to feed me, and I like my food! Also the best-kept ales I've found in Brighton. Top notch
