The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

I would like to try this pub again. Is it under new ownership or can anyone let me know how long the landlords have been there?

The Percy Arms, Chilworth

This is the only pub within the vacinity that I could find that has a low ie 2 (out of 5) food hygiene rating on the scores on the doors website. Also the bar staff can be very annoying by ignoring you at the bar, oddly enough especially when it is quiet, more important it would appear to fill the dishwasher or collect glasses, even after acknowledging you when you arrive, I find this very strange and very very irritating. It is a messy place, the tea towels they use to wipe the bar and anything else they can find to wipe are filthy. I have walked out on several occasions due to lack of service. I have eaten here in the past and the steak was really good but would not recommend it due to the other issues especially the hygiene standards at the bar. It is quite up its own ar$e but I really cannot think why, the guy who runs the place is really arrogant and on a few occasions when I have been in, he is very rude to his staff, it doesn't appear to bother him being rude in front of customers.

The Anchor Inn, Totton

I went in on a Sunday Lunch last year and was amased that there were a right bunch of erberts in there all talking football and eating sandwiches and talking with thier mouths full, bad manners. I asked one of the chaps he he would mind not speaking with his mouth full and he told me FO, rude man. I was with my bird who I had only met the night before, she said 'punch him', I was shocked. Anyway the food they were eating looked microwaved and very poor quality. I quite like this place and shall be returning but defo not on Sunday.

The Happy Cheese, Ashurst

Hello everyone. I have never been to this pub, BUT!!! I asked one of my mates about it and he said it was well bad!!! And his mate agreed but said he once had some cheesy chips which wre good but the cheese was a bit sweaty, but were cheap so he didn't want to complain. He said the car park had some dodgy motors and the geezers inside were a bit chavvy!

Still grim!! Can't find anything good to say about it other than it makes the other
local pubs look vey good, apart from maybe the Grantley Arms which is on par.

I have not plucked up the courage yet to give this place another try. Anyone been in recently to perhaps let me know what its like?

The William Bray , Shere Guildford Surrey

Has anyone else tried a GLASS of the New Zealand Sauvignon blanc at 11.40 a pop (ELEVEN POUNDS & FOURTY PENCE)

12 Jul 2012 13:08

The William Bray , Shere Guildford Surrey

I normally like this place BUT on my last very recent visit I asked for a glass of Sauvignon Blanc and was offered a choice of 2, French and a 'Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand, I opted for the second one, 'small
or large sir' the barlady asked so I said 'large please' 175ml I was told but no mention of the price, 'please put it on my tab' I said. On receipt of my bill which I duly paid, the price of the glass of wine 11.40 pence I asked for that to be checked and 'yes sir that is the price' and yes the bar lady was also astounded.Just for the record on searching for a bottle, purchase price, about 9 to 10 a bottle.

Maybe she has finally taken notice of some of the comments on here, she certainly needed to. I can also reiterate that there are several others that I know can't stand the place. Poor excuse for a pub. SOULESS!!!

Nice to see someone other than the two usual protagonists say something nice about the pub. Sounds like it might be looking up. I will give it a try in the next couple of weeks to see if I agree.

If I were the people running this pub I am not too sure I would welcome the comments added by 'clodhopper 1', he (surely a male!) sounds like a complete oaf. He is a bumbling buffoon and is barely literate, he often refers to his rambles, obviously not just his walking!!!!!! Anyone reading his 'rambles' would surely avoid going to The Bull if this is the sort of person that frequents it. What a goon!!!

The Jolly Farmer, Bramley

It appears that some people have picked up on just the negatives. Can I please reiterate some points I have previously made. 'I quite liked it' and 'they do serve up a wealth of pretty good real ales'

16 Dec 2011 17:40

The Jolly Farmer, Bramley

The staff appear to be far too sensitive to comments. It would be nice if they just accepted that it IS NOT the best pub in the world and THEY ARE VERY VERY VERY miserable and like it or not it can take a good while to get served even when not busy. There is no point anyone pointing it out to their faces beause they have their heads so far up their own ar*es that they'd take no notice of you anyway!! Far too self important.

Can anyone tell me if this pub has improved yet? Has the manageress moved on? I have spoken to a few locals who have found alternatives whilst the Percy Arms is closed and none of them can stand The Drummond either.

Pub, Chilworth

Not missed in particular either, but handy as I am local. It is better than that other place 'The Drummond at Albury', what a poor place that is!!!

Pub, Chilworth

looks like its RIP for this place....................unless anyone knows different???

21 Nov 2011 17:35

The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

I refer to 'The hobs' comments and counter that my comments are not unjustified are are certainly not vindictive. I have based my comments on MY experience of this pub, some other comments appear to agree, some don't! but either way they are all based on what people think of the pub, whether you or anyone else have eaten all over the world or not is somewhat of an odd comment eg. the fact that I have eaten 'frango com quiabo' in Brazil is somewhat irrelevant, I think you'll agree. Just for the record I find your comment 'even the female staff' a little chauvinistic .

The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

How anyone, apart from those with vested interest can defend this place is beyond me!! Looks like a fair share of other users agree with me. It all comes down to taste I suppose, sounds like this clodhopper chap, meaning 'a rough unsophisticated countryman' is totally suited to this place. I am not too sure where The Parkhatch is but sounds like its not to his taste, so I might well try it, peobably much better? Simples (what is that all about?)

17 Oct 2011 13:19

The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

Also!! I have just noticed that of my previous recommendations to avoid 'The Villagers' at Blackheath has closed down. Now that is a shame. It does not please me, but I am not surprised and I do not wish to see any pub closing, but I find it hard to suppoort pubs that are not very good and 'The Bull' certainly comes into that catergory ie not very good. So owners/landlord/lady please take note!!!!

13 Oct 2011 18:05

The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

How odd the previous comment starts 'Today we stumbled on the BullsHead' and later 'we and some others have been here before' . Sounds like some sort of made up junk to me.

13 Oct 2011 17:54

The Jolly Farmer, Bramley

Odd little place, but I quite liked it. Couple of blokes in their 50's run it. They are really grumpy, but can be forgiven because they do serve up a wealth of pretty good real ales. Try to avoid the old tattooed bird behind the bar, she thinks she is funny by being rude to customers and making agressive comments as though it should be appealing in some strange way, like some sort of eastenders character!! Still apparently she has been there for eons, so maybe she appeals to somebody!

5 Oct 2011 13:34

The Abinger Hatch, Abinger Common

Oh by the way it looked like one of those long life UHT cartons with juice made from concentrate!!! Please correct me if I'm wrong.

5 Oct 2011 13:15

The Abinger Hatch, Abinger Common

On a very recent visit I ordered an orange juice & lemonade. I asked the barlady if the OJ was fresh, she replied 'yes'. I had only see prebought cartons, so was interested to see what she was going to give me. I watched her grab a carton and sneakily pour it from the carton into a plastic (purpose made) OJ container with a fancy pourer on the top, as if that makes it fresh. I asked her again is that fresh then? she said 'well not freshly squeezed', so I asked again 'is it fresh then?' I didn't get a reply, so I ordered a different drink..........................VERY DODGY!!

I must say I really don't miss it, although it was handy as it's local to me, but the place was attracting a fair amount of the local 'do as you likies'. Perhaps the landlord could get them to tarmac the car park!!!

27 Sep 2011 17:24

The Drummond Arms, Albury

The Percy Arms is closed at the moment, so I was hoping to have a pint somewhere else. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IF THEY HAVE REPLACED THE AWFUL MANERGERESS YET?????

27 Sep 2011 17:16

The Drummond Arms, Albury

I had a quick pint in here last week, wish I hadn't. The same manageress was there again, this time customer side of the bar with the usual massive glass of wine in hand (number 1 priority). She gave the same condescending look. What an awful women. I am local whic is THE ONLY reason I would use this place, why would anyone with taste want to travel to go in here? Anyway I agree with zippy1975, I will definitely not be going back until I hear this person has gone!!!

14 Sep 2011 17:25

The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

Looks like most of the recent comments are in agreement with my previous comments. Do the managers/tennents take any notice at all? I will never forget what an awful experience I had in this place and it just vindicates my commnets, with others discribing it as 'awful' better still 'dire'. GRIM!!!

14 Sep 2011 17:10

The Drummond Arms, Albury

I noticed my previous posting relating to the manageress have been removed, I do find this most disconcerting because what I had to say was very relevant in my opinion. I have not been back to the pub as people I know have told me she is still in residence. Anyway as I have said before, see my comments below. It is a real shame for me that I can't go to the pub as I am local, but I would not watse my money visiting this pub with such an awful manageress and rest assured its not just in my opinion!!!

This place has had a recent refurb. but the furniture looks very cheap and tacky reproduction. It must be a managed pub!! I have not eaten here because it really looks like a 'Brakes Brothers' ready meal style place. The overwhelming minus point is the manageress. She really does think she is the bees knees, but I cannot for the life of me think why. She is never far away from her very large glass of wine and looks like that is her priority, to make sure its always topped up. Her partner/husband seems like a nice chap! they don't seem very suited. I know others find her aloof and stay away for that reason. Get rid of her, it would be a much nicer place!! awful women!!!

Well it is very interesting to read the more recent comments. I suppose its just a matter of taste really. Please accept that my opinion is just that. I am entitled to it just the same as you are yours ! All the same in my opinion the place looks very tired and the decor looks like it's been decked out for old folks. The garden lacks quality and the food was defineately the worst I can rember EVER having in a pub. I took a look in the place in passing over the Christmas period and it looks worse that I remembered and what I remembered was pretty bad. Anyway if its suits anyone else, then perhaps they have pretty low standards, but as I say it's only in my opinion !

Jeff_Stevens I would like to thankyou for your comments and firstly I agree with that the food presentation is not one of the strong points, also I agree that it is pricey, but quality and excellent it certainly wasn't. I also agree with you that I am happy to pay for quality, but as none was evident here, I wasn't. I also cannot reconcile your experence with my own and can assure you thisistrue.

I do not concur with your self important username and would like to offer my varacious comments in response. The fact that you have been a frequent visitor to this pub over several years and think that the food served is there is excellent would suggest that you need to get out more. I could recommend a place not too far away that might suit your taste, The Villagers in Blackheath. This is also a grim place but might well be suited to your standard of quality.

Being that I am fairly new to the area, I would appreciate your recommendations of other pubs I could try, I could then save myself a few wasted trips. One thing is for sure THISISTRUe!!!

Don't go here unless you fancy rubbish food and student style. Had a christmas dinner in this place, along with about 30 others. Seriously, if I'd have grabbed a couple of strangers off the street with zero experience of cooking, we'd have done a much better job. A positively grim experience. I'd give the current incumbant about a year tops. The gents loos are discusting.

I note from the last comment from Dissa that there has been a recent change of ownership. I would like to know when the recent change was. If it was in the last 3 months or so then possibly it has got better. If it was before this, then I fully stand by my 2 previous comments. Let me just reiterate, this truely was a spectacularly grim dining experience. DO NOT EAT HERE!!!!

The Bulls Head, Ewhurst

Hello again. I wrote the last comments but forgot to mention a couple of things. The other walking friends I went with also agreed that the food was very poor. The sauce that came with the steak was also very poor. The whole place was crusty, the older staff la looked like they needed to smarten up a bit, along with the pub itself. What an intirely grim experience. Just a final note, I had an upset stomach for four days. Maybe a coincidence? I think not!! If the husband chef has been doing this for fifteen years, goodness knows how bad he must have been at the outset. Do yourselves a favour and steer well clear of this place!!!

I visited this pub recently with some walking friends. We ordered some food. The sirloin steak I had, supposedly medium, come out grey in colour as though it had been boiled. I was so hungry after our walk I just ate eat. I mentioned it the waiter and then the landlady, who said I should have complained earlier. Anyway I told her I am complaining now and she was having none of it. She said she gets the steaks locally and her husband had been cooking them for the last 15 years. I can honestly say it was by far the worst steak I have ever eaten and at 14 was a disgrace. Don't eat there!!!
