The Old Bridge Inn, Aviemore

Decent pub, decent beer - just right for a post-Cairngorm refresher. Had a pint of Cairngorm Trade Winds - one of my favourites and it went down a treat! Worth seeking out.

The Bow Bar, Edinburgh

This is a great pub. The service is excellent, the pub itself full of character and welcomes a good mix of people. The whisky selection is good (quite expensive?) and the ale selection is also good (more reasonably priced, but about 3 a pint depending). The ale itself is well looked after - I had 3 different pints and all had great flavour. Well worth a visit.

The Star Tavern, Belgravia

Needs a bit of effort to find - hidden away down a mews behind sinister looking elecronic bollards! But, once in the mews, the Tavern beckons. The home made pork scatchings were a great partner to the ESB/Discovery that I partook of. My sons also enjoyed the home-made chips. A pub with character and well worth seeking out. I have found a friendly welcome on both visits...I look forward to the hat-trick!

The Hop Pole Inn, Bromsgrove

A proper local pub. Nice beer garden at the back, always a choice of beers on but Nailer's OBJ is a great Summer pint...or two. Well worth a visit: I have been dropping in for years when in Bromsgrove and always go. I am never disappointed! The beer is always in good condition.

The Wildmoor Oak, Wildmoor

Great, been twice. Beer is excellent - and the food is good. The entrance is not particularly promising. Don't let that put you off - nice garden, good pub. Recommended. Try the goat curry...and Three Tuns' Old Scrooge...both dangerously tasty!

The Weighbridge, Alvechurch

It was OK but did not live up to expectation. The beer WAS good, very good. Great range, and clearly well looked after. The food was OK, very average. The staff were OK, not particularly friendly. Maybe it's my face. Or my wife's.

The Blue Posts, Piccadilly

Called in on a busy Summer Saturday. A great spot just off of busy Picadilly and well worth searching out. Enjoyed Leffe and Summer Lightning: both in good condition. Salt beef baguette equally good, my friend enjoyed sausage and onion sandwich. Good mix of clientele from regulars with a paper at the bar to birds of passage such as myself. Friendly, relaxed atmosphere. I lingered - and I shall return!

The Sun Hotel and Bar, Lancaster

A very very fine pint indeed...you may wait a little to get served but it's worth it! The Lancaster beers are full of flavour and there are always others on offer too - normally a choice, then, of about 8. The feel of the pub is a mix of traditional stone watering hole and urban chic (but this is Lancaster...) and the food is good - not overpriced for what it is.

There's plenty of outside seating at the rear and it's close to the town centre. If you can spare a few minutes...do!

The Water Witch, Lancaster

An excellent pub - a really fine selection of ales, predominantly Northern but from further afield. When I went there were about 8 on offer...a great place to while away the hours on a Sunday afternoon - lots of outside seating too. They offer third pints if you can't decide!

The beer itself was very well kept - I had a couple of York Brewery beers and they were delicious...

The Golden Rule, Ambleside

This is all a traditional pub should be. If you can spare an hour in Ambleside, make it two...the beer is always well kept and staff have are welcoming and friendly. Decor is dated (in a good way) and don't expect flash food - I went during the week and what was on offer was a pork pie and/or crisps. The pie was very nice, thank you.

Personally I like a pint of the Robinson's Double Hop but there are usually about 5 beers on (including a mild).

The place is very dog friendly, by the way, and full of local characters. A fine Cumbrian pub, kept with real pride.
