The Farm Tavern, Hove

My girlfriend and I visited a couple of weeks ago for sunday lunch. We ordered one beef and one chicken. The beef arrived promptly enough but the chicken had come blatantly disguised as lamb. We pointed out the error and rather than put it right the rather stroppy female member of staff informed us with her thumb stuck up her a**e that we must have ordered lamb. The receipt proved otherwise and minutes later the chicken arrived - only to be whisked away immediately and placed on another table. We were then informed that our chicken would arrive in approx 30-40 minutes. I had at this point tried a couple of mouthfuls from my beef plate and noted that the beef tasted similar to a description of something I had read about in a History of the Royal Navy (The Nelson Years), and that chef had rather than waste power cooking the diced parsnip serve it up totally raw. We decided at this point to leave and request a refund since we would rather eat together. There was no quibble regarding the refund and we were given a very well rehearsed apology and the manager insincerely hoped that the experience would not put us off coming back another time. Hope he might, but we won't. In general It must be said that the staff seemed genaerally trying to please but were, as a team, utterly hopeless.

Medusa, Brighton

Rather pretentious little bar. Last time I went seemed to be full of local wannabee criminals bragging about deals. Sort of place people would go for a pre club wrap of something. Whole place seemed a bit grubby and sleazy. Plenty of old boozers with younger cheap looking women on their arms. Esca across the road seems to attract the classier looking punters.

The Ship Inn, Southwick

Cricketers, Southwick

Don't be fooled by lovely location. Small town Mentality, chavvy geezers trying to look ard wiv there birds. Loads of plastic Man U supporters and a chain pub microwave/grill menu. More like an estate pub than one set on a cricket green. Dreadful avoid at all costs.

Caroline of Brunswick, Brighton

Had a great Sunday lunch hear but not impressed with the butgers on second visit. Good selection of Cider but imagine this place is more of a night time pub than a day time haunt.

The Queens Head, Brighton

The Railway Bell, Brighton

Depressing, threatening. aggressive looking hardcore of regulars. amazing that in this day and age it survives at all. Will be steering clear of this one.

The Wick Inn, Hove

Went in this Saturday night with friends. The place was full of large groups of likely lads looking moody and up their own backsides. Toilets flooded and stank. Service slow and staff all looked like they had had enough. Also I have never known a place to get so soked out. Makes your eyes sting - open a window or somthing! Plenty of good pubs around for a night out - can't think of any reason to come back here.

The Albion, Hove

An ok place to drink if you want to mind your own business in the afternoon. Bit of a Geezers Boozer on a Friday/Saturday night - probably a good place to strike a dodgy deal. Oh and the Fruit machines never seem to pay out - ever!

The Slug and Lettuce, Hove

plastic pub, plastic food, run of the mill drinks and plastic customers. May be it is a Sims pub.

The Cliftonville Inn, Hove

Don't go on a sunday unless you want to wait all day to be served by staff still inebreated from the night before who have't got a clue what the do or don't have in stock. And make sure you have at least half a dozen choices in mind from the menu if you want to risk eating as most of it will have run out!

The Half Way House, Portslade

Closed and boarded up is about the best thing ever to happen to this hole.

The Victoria, Portslade

Was my local for many years before I moved into town. was a dependable old fashioned boozer. Has had a terrific makeover and is by far the best pub in the locality now. Good pub Grub, good range of drinks and efficient freindly staff. Good mix of local clientelle. I wish them well for the future and will continue to pop in any time I am passing through.!

The Blue Anchor, Portslade

Very quiet on a recent afternoon visit. Friendly enough but nothing special.

The Whistlestop Inn, Portslade

This place is absolutely awful, chavvy and unpleasant. Has been going staedily downhill for the last 15 years!

The Iron Duke, Hove

Nice and relaxing. Friendly staff and relaxed unpretentious regulars (unlike plenty of the pubs round here). Stowfords Press a real plus compared to Strongbow. Sunday Roasts looked ok but would be nice to be able to get a bite to eat other than at the weekends. Good place to watch footy without the usual morons. Good pool/games room out the back too!

Black Dog Inn, Waltham Chase

A cosy, unpretentious, traditional pub, despite being located on a rather busy road. It's worth going in mid summer just to see the amazing hanging baskets of colourful flowers that cover nearly every inch of the building. The food isn't particularly imaginative, but the portions are decent and the service always with a smile. One of the best pubs in the area.
