The Royal Albion, Reading

I went in this pub a couple of weeks ago during the week.

I must admit the locals couldn't stop staring at me every time I went up for a pint.

Bar service was great, probably will go back.

Royal Oak, Winchester

I've come to this pub on and off over about 15 years and can always say that I've had a great time in here.

The atmosphere is always good and the bar staff always impress me. We popped in on Saturday and the place was busy but not heaving.

Mixed age range of students to old folks and prices good for a town centre pub.

Will be coming here until the day I die, it's my favourite pub in Winchester.

William Walker, Winchester

We went here for a meal on a Saturday night and it was pretty busy, bordering on very noisy.

We did book a table but there wasn't a table reserved for us and we had to find our own.

We really enjoyed the food, the portion sizes were good and so were the staff and the drinks.

Definitely would go again, although perhaps on a quieter night.

Bakers Arms, Winchester

I haven't been to this pub since my student days and quite liked it then as it was out of the way.

We came on karaoke night and had to put up with children and sad middle aged people singing.

After one horrid pint, got out of there quickly.

A good pub if you are very, very drunk to start with.

The Crown and Anchor, Winchester

I went to this pub over the weekend as I used to go there many years ago and was very disappointed. The service was terrible, the staff looked miserable and there is no atmosphere or music, even the locals looked depressed. It feels like the life has been sucked out of this place. We couldn't get out of there fast enough.

Pity, as it's a beautiful central pub with a nice range of beers.

The Cunning Man, Reading

I've been here a few times and the food is excellent although the staff sometimes don't seem "with it". Lovely setting, not bad prices. Family pub with loads of seating outside by the river.

The Upin Arms, Reading

I've drunk here for a few years and do like it although it can get incredibly busy and the service can be slow.

Food is good as is the atmosphere.

Pity this place is shutting down as it's going to be replaced with a far more expensive pub from The Castle Breweries.

The Bel and the Dragon, Reading

I have been here a few times and have loved every meal I have been for here.

The service is friendly and relaxed, the staff helpful and the food superb quality, although a little over priced.

The Old Forge, Otterbourne

I went here for my birthday celebration on Fri, 9th July with 4 other people. The pub was very busy. The barman looked very harassed when we asked if we could sit outside. What he failed to say was that there was a different menu served outside so we had to come back in again and sit at our original table.

The service was extremely slow. It took half an hour for them to ask us after we sat down what drinks we would like. There was one hour wait between the starter and main course being served. The Eton Mess dessert had been tainted with cheese and it was a nightmare to get it taken off the bill.

We ordered an extra side salad and that was not served. We also received food we did not order.

When we were served the wine, it was unceremoniously dumped onto the table without being poured into the glasses. We were told that this was a time saving idea but to us, it is a BASIC in table service no matter how rushed it is.

We did not feel welcome or cared about.

My sister complained about all the above and didn't even get an apology!

The food was pretty average, food overpriced and the service and attitude of the staff was bad. Pity because the pub is beautiful. Will not be going here again.

The Granby, Reading

Expensive and lots of attitude by the regulars.

The Turks, Reading

Good pub, spacious and cheap.

10 Dec 2006 15:23

The Eldon Arms, Reading

It's a friendly pub but they don't do a Christmas menu, I can see them losing a lot of business that way. Pity, otherwise, a good pub.

The Bugle, Reading

Good, friendly pub. Slightly expensive but good atmosphere, juke box and the big screen jazzes the place up a bit.

The Walkabout, Reading

Had some good nights out here. Cocktails are very tasty although very lethal and the toilets are an age away!!

Bar 38, Reading

Snobby.

10 Dec 2006 15:16

The Orange House, Reading

Food awful. Service okay. Not bad if you want cheap drinks and to watch the footie although when you go downstairs to the toilets, it stinks of urine.

10 Dec 2006 15:14

The Hope Tap, Reading

Depressing pub. Service okay. Toilets are very, very far away!

10 Dec 2006 15:12

The Allied Arms, Reading

Quite small, good space outside. Cosy, enjoyed all my times in here.

10 Dec 2006 15:10

Pavlov's Dog, Reading

Ages to get served. The staff don't seem interested to serve you unless you are young. Drinks expensive.

10 Dec 2006 15:07

The Litten Tree, Reading

Closed - thank god, it went right down hill after it started to do drum n base nights. Lots of trouble with footie hooligans too. Anyway, it's shut, HOORAY!!

10 Dec 2006 15:02

The Purple Turtle, Reading

I do like this place but the drinks are so expensive!! Good jukebox and lots of different nights on. Toilets are a bit of a pain, up all those stairs when drunk!

10 Dec 2006 15:00

Bar Med, Reading

Music awful and it's expensive. Best go somewhere else.

10 Dec 2006 14:58

The Wynford Arms, Reading

It is a gay pub - for men mainly. I have had some good nights in here, everyone seems friendly and don't hassle you, especially if you are female. The jukebox is quite bad though but if you like cheesey music, you'll be very happy here!

10 Dec 2006 14:51

The Warwick Arms, Reading

I tried to book an Xmas meal here - don't bother, they couldn't be bothered to fax/e-mail me over a menu and when I did ring up to chase, the chef was quite rude. It's a nice looking pub and the staff are usually okay but just one bad experience is enough to put me off going there again.

10 Dec 2006 14:47

The Back of Beyond, Reading

Mixed review for this pub. Enjoy the Sunday Roasts but every now and then I get a stingy, luke warm meal. The bar staff can be pretty slack and it can take an age to get served. It's non-smoking so it's a different type of clientele e.g. nicer! No kids, hooray!

10 Dec 2006 14:45

The Fruit Bat, Reading

A pub full of friendly locals and students. 2 a pint for any draught and spirits quite cheap too. Have enjoyed many nights down here, although the juke box is a bit passed it but they have Sky and show a mixture of sports. Not bad for apub which looks like a shop on the outside!

10 Dec 2006 14:42

Coopers Arms, Reading

I went in here over the weekend and took an age to get served by a very drunk woman (landlady?). She was quite rude and the staff weren't a lot better. The locals seem okay. Jukebox good. Food average.
