The Hautboy Inn, Ockham

Met up here for a drink with a couple of friends on a Saturday evening a few weeks ago. The Hautboy seems to be geared up far more for eating rather than drinking. The upstairs bar of earlier posts appears to have been replaced by a cellar bar, which was closed when we visited. The 3 of us were the only people there who were not there to eat in the restaurant, but were able to sit in a small waiting area at one end, having got a drink from the restaurant bar. No signs of any Hog's Back TEA either, although the Ringwood Fortyniner was available and in good condition.

The Combermere Arms, Burleydam

Visited twice last weekend whilst staying nearby. Good range of real ales. Food was superb on both occasions. There were 20 of us both days, so I think we must have tried most options on the menu and everything was very good. Blackboard with an interesting cheese menu and another with the port menu to go with it! Landlord and staff friendly. Fairly big country pub with nice decor.

To sum up, I wish this was my local!

The Railway Arms, Alton

Very crowded in the bar area when we visited (midweek but just before Christmas) but the non-smoking room out the back was a nice surprise - big sofas and plenty of space. Great beer!

The Monkey Puzzle, Southwood

Bar at the Brewers Fayre. London Pride has always been good when I've visited. Large outdoor seating area (with the monkey puzzle tree of the name). Seems popular as a pub as well as a restaurant.

The Royal Oak, Pirbright

Great to see a pub that's already gone non-smoking, but:
No TEA available, so just the various Greene King offerings
Roast lunch mediocre at best (looked like frozen roast potatoes - not properly cooked, meagre portions of veg)
Bar/waiting staff ok, but kitchen "too busy" (after some of our party had ordered their meals, the rest of the group were told that no more orders would be taken until it was quieter - situation didn't seem to be handled very well)
