The Royal George, Charing Cross Road

Usually plays decent music, has no smoking room downstairs (pah). Interesting mix of people but usually friendly enough

The Three Greyhounds, Soho

I don't know about the last comment, we managed to spend an entire evening there and got suitably pissed. Compared to the other pubs nearby this is a pretty good bet for a decent pint and some olives.

The Green, Islington

Nice place, apart from the huge mirrors. Fairly pricey, but then this is Islington!

The Princess Louise, Holborn

Pretty pub and deserted on a sunday (maybe due to lack of food).

The Duke of Cambridge, Islington

Really pricey place. And usually very busy, best to book if you want to eat. Food was pretty good though.

Bristol Ram, Bristol

Amazing saturday night indie club. Best club in Bristol by miles.

The Pineapple, Bristol

Provincial gay pub at it's best with lovely quaint little dance floor.

The Bristol Ram, Bristol

Quite like it, trendyish decoration, nice beer. Usually gets quite busy later on.

The Edinboro Castle, Camden

Been meaning to change my entry for ages to say I got food poisoning from the barbeque... and not the nice sort either.

The Boat, Berkhamsted

Went all the way from London to visit here, wasn't let down - great food, excellent choice of Fullers' beers, nice canalside beer patio too.

The Edinboro Castle, Camden

Lovely pub, nice beer, nice garden, lovely food, cute barman (long haired indie looking one). Especially good during the day...

The Backpackers, Kings Cross

Looks very closed now whenever I walk past it...

The Spread Eagle, Camden

Favourite pub in Camden (apart from the Edinboro Castle). Good beer, can usually get a seat and close to work - always good signs!

The Maltings, Edinburgh

Ah, used to be my local at Uni... Perfectly nice beer, and odd tables with board games painted on them. The chippie next door used to take returns of Irn Bru bottles as payment for food - handy! No doubt it's changed slightly since 2000 when I was last in there though!

The Retro Bar, Strand

Genuinely fantastic place... been going there on and off for four years and never had a crap night. Love coming near last in the pub quiz on Tuesdays (except once... when we won). One of the only pubs I would travel miles to get to voluntarily. Wendy is possibly the best landlady in the business - she should be made a life peer for services to drunkeness.

The Flask, Highgate

Agree with last comment that the staff tend to be slow and the food is fairly unexciting for the vast amount of money they charge for it. Having said that, by the time I got there on a Sunday (3pm) there was actually not very much food left to choose from. There are plenty of other places in the area which are far better.

The Black Cap, Camden

Quite like this place for all it reminds me of a provincial gay pub... beer terrace is great in the summer. Although beer usually tastes awful. Thursday nights 'What We Like' are probably the best of the bunch at the moment with indie, electro, rock n pop tunes...

The Unicorn, Kentish Town

Just been done up to reflect it's greene king ownership a bit more. all draftflow beer, but a definate improvement.

Ruby Blue, Leicester Square

Just no. It is wrong on so many levels.

18 Mar 2005 09:36

The Two Brewers, Covent Garden

Have been their twice, first time was a Saturday and it was lovely, second time was last night (St Patrick's Day) and it was full of hideous Americans discussing how they love being 'Irish'.

Living Bar and Club, Brixton

Seemed perfectly nice to me (although it was a Tuesday). Later licence than other places and gave away free smarties on the tables.

The Prince Albert, Brixton

Nice enough... does sell Newcastle Brown Ale for about 2.50 which almost makes up for lack of real ale. went there before babyshambles at the Academy and it wasn't too busy, which suggests it is a decent alternative to the Backstage or one of the other traditional pre-gig pubs.

24 Feb 2005 13:08

The Assembly House, Kentish Town

After 8pm, probably the only pub in the area you're guarenteed to get a seat (unless Arsenal are playing away). Watch out for added fun of riot vans on Saturdays - if you're lucky :)

It's also v handy to find from the station which makes it ideal for meeting people in.

22 Feb 2005 12:45

The Endurance, Soho

we had a shocking display of rudeness too the other day after trying to climb on to and dance with the bear in the corner... he apologised to us though!

24 Jan 2005 16:06

The Lord Stanley, Camden

Lovely pub - even more so compared to what is nearby (i.e. Mansfield, Unicorn and Leighton). Reasonably priced beer which is of a pretty high standard. All pubs should have ginger cat like the Stanley's...!
