The Sovereigns, Woking

Easily the best pub in the centre of Woking, (not that that's saying much), the manager and bar staff always seem to make a real effort to make sure everyone's happy. There's always interesting guest ales on tap, and you are able to have a sample taste before you buy a pint. Much wider selection of ales than the other Ember Inn in Woking.

The Red Lion Inn, Horsell

I called in here late afternoon recently for a quick pint and was very impressed. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, the pub was clean and there was a nice attention to detail; fresh flowers on the table, toilets clean, and beer garden neat and tidy.
I believe this pub is famous locally for its food, and judging by the amount of bookings I heard being phoned in on a wednesday afternoon they must be doing something right.
Bearing in mind I visited on a mid week afternoon I can't comment on what a Saturday night is like but I will certainly come back at a later date to try out the food.

The Fox and Flowerpot, Goldsworth Park

Not really a 'pub'; if you're 17 and want to get hammered, or want to see Sky Sports and are not bothered about your surroundings, you might like this kind of place. Otherwise stay well clear, soulless, depressing, staff don't give a damn, filthy toilets, TV blasting out etc.

The Plough Inn, Horsell

I believe the food is great in this pub but I didn't eat so can't comment on that, maybe next time! A really nice local type pub, friendly bar staff, good location and cosy child friendly garden. A good selection of ales, though seemed a bit pricey; 3 for a pint of Deuchars which is 2.20 a pint at the Sovereigns in Woking town centre.

Bridge Barn, Woking

I've got to say I agree with the comments below regarding the service here. I've called in to this pub many times, but only because it's close to where I live, not because it's any good. It's a nice location, big garden by the canal but the service is always, without exception, diabolical. Many times I've seen people three deep at the bar and only one person serving, which wouldn't be so bad if the staff gave were proficient but they seem to specialise in recruiting half wits who don't give a damn about the customers.
Today I called in to see if things had changed since my last visit; long queue at the bar(at 3.30 in the afternoon), one member of staff who served one person then disappeared out the back; beautiful spring day but no one could sit in the garden as all the benches are stacked up down the side of the pub. I walked out (again). Unbelievable.

The Ram, Kingston Upon Thames

Anyone who has enjoyed this pub as a pleasant old fashioned type of place where you could have a quiet pint might get a shock if they visit these days. They now have plasm TVs installed blasting out continuous sport, and as a result they are attracting a younger noiser crowd. On my last 2 visits it's been packed out with noisy and aggressive football fans.Good for business I'm sure but it's ruined a once decent boozer.

The Boaters Inn, Kingston Upon Thames

We encountered the bizarre table reserving as well, and it wasn't even Jazz night. After sitting at a table for a couple of hours a waitress came over and told us that we'd have to move in 15 minutes as the table was reserved. There was no reserved sign on the table, it was Sunday afternoon, and the pub wasn't even that busy, it seemed that one of the regulars just wanted the best table in the house. As it happened we were about to leave anyway otherwise we would have asked to speak to the manager.Perhaps they should remember that they are a pub, not a restaurant, and the idea of managing a pub is to make all your customers feel welcome.
