The Bridgewater Arms, Macclesfield

Sad update. Ken, previously landlord of the Bridgewater arms passed away recently.
Have a beer or two in the big bar upstairs tonight fella.

The Crag Inn, Wildboarclough

Top notch sunday lunch here and the real ale is possibly the best kept in the county! Fantastic, picturesque drive to it from all directions (Especially in a Scooby) would recommend 100%

The Plume Of Feathers, Tewin

Went in to grab a late Sunday Lunch (around 5pm)
Went to the bar and waited and waited and waited and waited.
Why CAN'T you get MORE STAFF ON THE BAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
As there were at least 5 people who were in front of me to still be served - I gave up and walked out.

Ended up at the White Horse - Short wait to be served and lovely food.

P.O.F - Please pull your finger out - I may try again in 6 months - If you are still slow I'll leave it 12 months till the next visit and so on.

The Five Horseshoes, Little Berkhamsted

Just uploaded a photo of the meal we were served - A picture speaks 1000 words.

That's assuming the MODS post it up!

We are halfway through a walk with max the dog. Stopped of here for a spot of Sunday lunch. Oh my god. What a mistake. The food is awful. Very dry beef, burnt roast potatoes, overcooked veg. On passing comment to the duty manager "James" his reply was "You ate the food didn't you". In fact we hadn't. Even max our dog curled his lip up.

Kudos to Carly Ann for sorting out a refund.
Big raspberry to James for being so dismissive of my wifes comments. Chef and Brewer my arse!

The Sun Inn, Northaw

Meh. Not overly impressed. Won't be rushing back. Adequate.

The Red Lion, Welwyn

Very friendly staff. Good, No not good - GREAT FOOD!
Prices may be higher than some grotty back street boozer filled with perma-doled league of gentlemen rejects but that suits me sir!

Give it a go.

I recently rediscovered this place and it's great. I'll be keeping a close eye on the quality of the food though. As is often the case the brewery gets trade up by employing quality kitchen staff then moving them on once the turnover hits a trigger point.

Don't let it happen as without the food you'll struggle!

Improved a heck of a lot since my last review - worth trying again!

The Plume Of Feathers, Tewin

Service is slow and the bar is often covered in beer. Guess this is down to the fact that it is understaffed - dificult to spend money if no-one there to take it off you!!

The Cowper Arms, Digswell

Hmmm, Didn't realise that it was the bar staffs job to interrogate customers ordering drinks if they were walking or driving?

Ye Olde Kings Head, Gurnett

This place is like a fine wine - just gets better and better.

If you like well cellared real ale - give this place a try...

The Peacock, Huthwaite

Pub is okay - Sadly there are a few mouthy yob chavs who ruin it for everyone else.

The Sun Inn, Welwyn Garden City

Lillady, you should leave Tims comments up there. People will make their own minds up and I think you'll come out on top. (Especially if you let people move from table 12 to a table near the fire ;) - AND they then win a load of prizes on the Sunday Night Raffle (Great idea - I'll not go hungry this week)

Cheers to Spanky, Dave et al!

The Crooked Chimney, Welwyn Garden City

Dire.

Try the Sun Inn down the road.

Turn right as you leave the CC Carpark - Turn left at the Church a few hundred feet down the road. The Sun Inn is just at the bottom of the hill on the right hand side, Now THERE is a decent Pub.

The Sun Inn, Welwyn Garden City

Recently re-discovered this pub as we are having work done at home so no kitchen or dining room.

What can I say?

The food is outstanding, The London Pride is one of the best I have had, if not THE best. The staff are very welcoming. The price is reasonable (So much so that we have eaten here 7 times in the last 10 days)

A real treat - I have family coming to WGC over Christmas and I'll definately be treating everyone to a visit to the SUN.

Keep up the great work.

The White Horse, Burnham Green

Went for a quick beer on Thursday evening. The place looks great. Menu looked good and the food I saw being brought out prompted a booking for Sunday Lunch.

Glad to see the staff being very helpful - Pleased to see the old place getting back to form. Dog Friendly also (In garden and on lead)

The Plume Of Feathers, Tewin

Things have not changed a lot since the last comments were posted. We recently went for an early Sunday pm lunch to be told they had "Run out of food" ?

It was a glorious hot Sunday afternoon - They have some of the best views in Hertfordshire from their lovely, lovely gardens - and they had "Run out of food" !!!

Talk about the costs of lost opportunities !

Well - I have to say that the "Nanny State" has taken a further turn from the sublime to the ridiculous. My wife and I went to this pub for a meal tonight. My wife found the steak rather tough so asked for the remaining 2/3rds in a doggy bag, (actually seriously - for our cute puppy), however the manager refused to allow us to remove it from the premises as we might subsequently sue for food poisoning !!! - I suggested that this was PC going completely barmy and also pointed out that as we were going to pay for the meal we actually OWNED it and requested the steak be returned so we could "Finish it" (In reality we would have wrapped it in a napkin and left) Sadly, we were subsequently informed that the offending article had already been "thrown away".

I lost the will to live at this point.

The beer (Bombadier) however was excellent, just don't try the "So-called" 35 day matured, tender, flavoursome sirloin steak - perhaps this is why we were not allowed to remove it from the premises? We love our dog but 12 for a steak for his dinner?

I feel a call to trading standards coming on!

Chieftain, Welwyn Garden City

I heard rumours about it being a rough pub but when I went in I had no problems - mind you I probably looked a bit scarier than everyone else in there. :)

Friendly in a northern way (I'm from manchester so no prob for me)

Cheap food.

The Attimore Hall, Welwyn Garden City

Beer is okay - not happy with the ban on kids under 14

Kids over 14 allowed ONLY if eating a meal.

Saving grace is the "WORD-UP" video game (for what it's worth)

The Cowper Arms, Digswell

Friendly local. Wasps are a problem in summer due to the abundance of flowers near the outdoor eating area.

New Landlord and Landlady seem to be nice enough - however all the original staff have gone ??
