The Cock, Colney Heath

Friendly pub. We cycled up about 10 mins before they shut on Sunday afternoon, but after serving us they said they would leave the side door open so the girls could use the loo. Proper "Northern style" pint of Tetleys too. Another one added to my bicycle pub crawl.....

The White Lion, St Albans

Well done The White Lion, making it in to The 50 Best Gastopubs - in last weekends Independent. Unlike other "gastropubs" its still a great pub to drink in.

The Blacksmiths Arms, St Albans

Always had one of the best pub gardens in Snorbans, shame the pub WAS one of the worst. Big improvement recently. Been a few times including going to their beer festival. Nice range of real ales. had one dodgy pint but was happily exchanged for a fresh one. LOVING the real ale loyalty card. KEEP IT UP!

The Rocket, Euston

My mate picked the pub as we were going to be watching the Arsenal, V United match. The location, however was the key, as we were traveling down to St Pancras, meeting a bunch of mates coming into Euston. The pub was actually pretty good. We were supposed to head on some where else later, but stayed here instead. There were plenty of screens showing the footy. They also had a meal deal, which although I cant remember the exact details, was pretty good value, and the food when it came I can remember thinking was good, for the price.

One complaint, NO REAL ALE! so had to "make do" with Guinness Red.

The Farmers Boy, St Albans

Had not been in for a while but had a couple of good late drinks in here last night with my mate. Took me about 30 mins to notice the wall with the fire place had gone since my last visit! I am planning on not leaving it so long until my next trip there

The Bell, St Albans

The Bell has shut and looks like it will be turned into a retail site by its new owners, The Maltings. Shame it will not be a pub any longer, but I am not going to miss the pub that it was.

The Snug, St Albans

We were very impressed with what had been done to this place. 3 excellent guest ales on when we visited including an interesting stout. The food was very nice and service was friendly and efficient. The whole place is simillar in many ways to The Peahen, but with very well made cocktails. Nice outdoor tables for when the weather improves.

The Nelson, Wheathampstead

Oh and it is open in the afternoon during the week, which is always handy :)

The Green Man, Sandridge

Agree completely with last post. Really nice pub, and beer, but selection was a but uninspiring, although very well kept, best pint of Abbot I have ever had! I will be back.

The Nelson, Wheathampstead

I enjoyed this pub and its nice range of ales ( The even had Mild!) on my two recent visits. Service friendly and efficient and the other customers were pretty sociable, not a pit-bull to be seen, Definitely worth detouring too if you are cycling or walking along the Ayot Green Way and Devils Dyke is just up the hill.

Holly Bush, St Albans

Very pleasant pub, large garden, well kept Fullers Ales, food looked very good, although I did not try it this time. Always nice to see barmen in shirts and ties, makes the slightly high price for the beer seem more acceptable. definitely worth the journey though.

The Goat, St Albans

Having written the review below, yesterday, I saw in the local rag tonight that The Goat is under new management. The new land lady says she intends to give the place a paint when the smoking ban comes in and are going to keep the board games. I look forward to a revival.

The Goat, St Albans

Used to be my favorite pub and I was drinking here back when it was "The Goth Pub". Previously this would have got an 8 from me as it was a comfortable pub, particularly for a Sunday afternoon. It has gone down hill a bit, and is looking tired, ripped furniture, broken chairs, pealing wallpaper etc. Still enjoy the selection of board games. The Sunday night pub quiz is till one of the best around and regularly packs the place out. On a normal night though, given the choice go to the White Lion or White Hart Tap instead.

The Beehive, St Albans

Used to be pretty good, homemade flavoured vodkas etc. Now it seems to be on a downward spiral.... PULL UP, PULL UP!

Alright for watching the football if you are in that part of town, otherwise dont bother....

The Robin Hood, St Albans

Not the prettiest or most historic of Snorbans pubs but should not be overlooked becuase of that. I have been in on a number of occasions now and the ale has always been top notch ( good pint of Adnams and Spitfire). The staff are friendly and efficient and the live music on Saturday nights is of a good quality and of varying style, offering something different from other venues around (last time I was there on a Sat they had a 50's Rock n Roll group, complete with double bass the time before was a Mod covers band.) Even if you are not there for the music the pub is large enough to still hold a decent conversation in the front part without having to shout over it.

The Plough, Smallford

Visited this pub whilst cycling along the Alban Way. Warm and welcomingly busy even on a cold Sunday afternoon in February. We did not try the food, but there seemed to be lots of people who did. Choice of 3 well kept ales - Adnams, Abbot and Landlord. Locals were friendly, door held open for my girlfriend when bringing round back from the bar etc. Will be back!

The Farmers Boy, St Albans

One of those pubs I have always walked past but never been in, worried it looked a bit unwelcoming.
Finally put that to one side a few weeks back and have not stopped going back since. What I found was a
very nice local pub. I really like The Farmers Joy, a dark nutty / choc beer (brewed out the back)
Mrs Olly appreciates the cushions on the benches.
Landlord and Landlady both very welcoming.
Noticed they are offering some good drink and food deals during the World Cup.
Sunny back garden

The White Lion, St Albans

Great pub, good beer, nice food, lovely garden. Staff have always been very friendly when I have visited. If you live in Snorbans or are just visiting pop it on your list.

Btw as to the previous post about wanting football and good beer, The Farmers Boy is always worth a look, especially on match-days.
