Much improved bar service. Gents toilets border on the edge of the civilised world with a smell to go with them. Never any soap in the dispenser.
Food is unquestionably of a very high standard and the 3 handpump beers always have a local ale and are well kept.

Spacious yet cosy roadside pub which was renovated a few years ago and now enjoys a new lease of life.
Locals congregate in the front area of the bar and enjoy a wide range of beers and lagers including Dark Star Hophead, and Summer Lightening which is kept in good condition.
Foodies will enjoy a cosmopolitan menu of a high standard.
It lacks much in the way of a garden but there is outdoor seating with a prime view of the near-misses
on the roundabout !
Friendly on both sides of the bar !

Recently taken over by the Upham Brewery so worth visiting as they don't muck about.

Indifferent barmaid who pours short measures and is surly when challenged.
Pub has a deserved high reputation for food but needs to address the frontline. Guest beers vary and have recently included Hophead, Summer Lightning, Goodwood organic bitter - which was excellent, and Bowman's Swift One.
One major beer problem with Emsworth is the virtual domination of Gales/Fullers beers in her 9 pubs, and an indifferent selection of guest beers from other breweries.......

We were on our way to the Pig's Nose in East Prawle when our T4 snapped her fan-belt. Kingsbridge Garage towed us in for repair and loaned us a courtesy Mondeo - which was great for blending in with the locals ! On the basis of 3 pubs in the immediate area on the OS map we headed in the Tuckenhay direction and were delighted to find this pub open all day, and selling food all day.
Very pleasant young barman, superb pint of Otter Bitter, and Soup Provencal, on the banks of the Dart Estuary - bliss !
Highly recommended.

Found through the GBG and worth it ! Shabby from the outside but big in welcome and atmosphere
on the inside. Nice garden out the back too. Can't really remember what we drank but it was a straw-coloured localish bitter which went down a treat. Our puppy loved the landlady's treats !

6 different ales on the wicket - 2 from Sharp's, Liberation (CI), and 3 I can't remember. Looks inviting from the outside and certainly lives up to expectations. Comfy, quirky, and highly recommended.

The Green Dragon Inn, Stoke Fleming
We stayed in a lovely concerted barn 30 minutes walk away in Venn and this pub was an added bonus.
'Regotter' - the Otter Bitter renamed for the upcoming Dartmouth Regatta - was in excellent form and the atmosphere in the pub is so welcoming you'd wish every pub was like it. If you want to eat then you need to book ahead. Otherwise order takeaway fish and chips from 'The Brill Plaice' which is about 300m away and enjoy a pint while they're being prepared.

Had a very brusque welcome from the barman when we rocked up on a Sunday afternoon around 5pm when the pub was pretty much empty.
The Otter Bitter was somewhat sad and not at it's best. Across the road from the pub is a pleasant garden.
Might be prepared to give it a second chance.

Recommended by the bar lady at the excellent 'The `George' in Blackawton.
It's everything a good pub should be ! Welcoming. slightly shambolic furnishings, well kept beer - the Otter Bitter, and the Eddystone were both in fine form - and the best Stilton Ploughman's I've had in eons !
I'd happily have a lock-in here !

The Church House Inn, Stokenham
Nothing but good things to say about this pub despite an indifferent initial greeting from the barmaid.
Nice pint of Otter to accompany there best mussels I've ever eaten in the UK. all 4 of us enjoyed a good meal, Otter, and Jail.

The Chichester Inn, Chichester
Not a bad boozer despite the very high pump prices. Usually a good selection including Dark Star, and Burning Sky breweries. Back room has become an established music venue putting on some of the best touring acts around - given a capacity of just over 100 which reflects the perhaps high ticket prices although I'd have said it's well worth it to see and hear great musicians rather tan pay more to travel further afield.

The Horse And Groom, East Ashling
Excellent range of beers including Hophead at £3 a pint - so what's not to like ?, Youngs Bitter, and at least 2 others - all well-kept.
Happy mix of locals and visitors. Good food selection, lovely garden, accommodation is reportedly good. Closed Sunday evenings.
Quirky but mainly very pleasant bar staff.

Gem of a pub in a small town unfortunately dominated by Fullers (who took over Gales), and Youngs pubs.
Always a good range - usually Directors, Tribute, Youngs Special, Bombadier and more recently Summer Lightning - racked on the back wall.
Good pub food, known for its sausages but spanning a wide range. Courtyard garden at the back is a real sun-trap.

The Three Horseshoes, Burton Bradstock
£1.80 for half a lime & soda !!!
Pretty sullen and uninspiring pub with only Palmers on offer. Wont be going back.

The Old Joint Stock, Birmingham
Brilliant pint of ESB in a fantastically interesting pub with terrific jazz from a young trio last Sunday lunchtime.

The Richmond Arms, West Ashling
New landlord, Cliff, from the locality, has worked 'wonders' with other local pubs in recent years so we'll see.

The Horse And Groom, East Ashling
Enjoyed a long Sunday lunchtime session among friendly locals and bar staff.
Free piping leftover hot roast spuds accompanied by Yorkshire Pudding was very welcome. No complaints at all and i ride - a bike !

Quality remains priority. Locals have come back, food and drink is good - not cheap though - and the exterior and landlord's quarters are being given a lick of paint.

Under new ownership as of early April 2009 - same people who own the Earl of March in Lavant. Apparently no plans other than to improve the quality of food and keep the excellent range of beers going so watch this space with renewed interest !

Stopped by on 17 May 2009 - 'place was full of flipping beer-drinking cyclists obviously having a good time and no wonder as the beer's not only in great condition and brewed a handful of miles away. I wish I could remember what they were all called but my memory fades after a few.....

The Wheelwrights Arms, Havant
Vastly improved since being taken over and tastefully renovated by Upham Brewery who usually have at least 3 of their rather good ales on hand pump. Knowledgeable and pleasant bar staff make it a very welcome place to visit and the little attentions to detail are worth discovering. Good car park and very convenient for the nearby Spring Arts Centre (which doesn't sell draft beer).
