Lamb Hotel, Eccles

A lovely Edwardian pub, but beauty on the outside does not always transfer to the beer pumps inside. The pint of Holts bitter I had there was sour. In fact I suspect that it had lain below the bar for a while, because when I ordered it, I got it much quicker than I'd ever got a pint in a Holts before, very suspicious I'd say. Maybe it was because I'm not a regular and the barmaid tried it on, or the beer really is that sour. I haven't ever been back since.

The Forresters Arms, Prestwich

Definitely a pub stuck in the 70s, which to me is a good thing.

Black Boy, Eccles

I believe this once good pub is now closed, and is now an office for some firm.

The Weavers Arms, Swinton

Nice pub, in a good location, with friendly bar staff, though the landlord leaves something to be desired. My missus was sitting outside one monday night, and the landlord began throwing his weight about with her as he wanted to close the pub, although it was before 11 pm, and she still had a full glass of wine to finish, not very friendly I would say.

The White Horse, Prestwich

An honest and down to earth pub in a north Manchester suburb, close to the metrolink (150 yards), selling good Holts beer, with pizza and kebab shops nearby, and with a taxi rank only just behind it, what more could you ask for?

The Blue Bell, Monton

This pub is in a good residential location, and attracts a young and rowdy element, as most pubs do at the weekend. I visited it with my missus one afternoon a few weeks back, and the food was quite good, reasonably priced, and the bar staff, friendly and courteous. I would visit again, but as there are so many good pubs in the Salford area, this may be some time yet.

The Eccles Cross, Eccles

As with most other Wetherspoon pubs I have visited, it has an "old soak" element who sit there with only the one aim of getting as sozzled as time would let them. The beer is of the usual good standard, and the staff hard working. The pub facilties are ok, though the clean toilet awards that the Wetherspoon pubs have enjoyed in the past would pass this pub by, seeing the state the gents were in. It has a pleasant beer garden,(when open) good if you want to smoke, or to sit in the open (weather permitting) I would say one of the better pubs in the centre of Eccles.

The Top House, Eccles

This is a friendly and cheap pub, you can sit and enjoy a good pint, though the wine leaves something to be desired if you hate dry white wine. I often start an evening in Eccles there with my missus, and have never encountered any trouble over the past 10 years.

The John Gilbert, Worsley

This pub often gets very busy at lunchtimes and certainly at weekends, filled with what looks like the affluent businessman, or the ladies that lunch brigade, and the car park often has Mercs, Porsches and Audis populating it. The food is good, with a good choice of menu, and none of that burgers or chicken in a basket that many lesser pubs serve. The prices are a little higher than average, but then you do pay for quality, and the staff are pleasant and professional, mostly the posher student type, the ones who wash daily unlike the student types in other pubs. I certainly like it, and my missus, not usually satisfied with food quality, rates it highly.
