The Kings Arms, Oxford

Another dissappointment from Oxfords declining pub scene. The inside is fine but the staff are terrible. It took an age to get service and then the wine measure was short. They dont seem to know what their doing - perhaps it was a first shift for all of them. Find somewhere else.

The Riverside Inn, Ashford

My girlfriend and me stopped here intending just to have a drink but stayed for dinner. It definately feels more of a restaraunt than a pub and the menu is very typically brit-pub! The food was good though and the staff quick and efficient. I cant say I'd go out of my way to return but it was a decent enough place to refuel.

The Plough Inn, Ashford

I agree with the other reviewer that this place seems to have got things right! A group of us had a more than satisfactory dinner and the punters were a good mix of old and young, locals and others. I hear the sunday lunch is good so will definately be returning. Its unpretentious and cosy with friendly staff.

The Harcourt Arms, Oxford

Not living in Oxford anymore I hadnt been here for a couple of years but had fond memorys of it. I gather it has changed hands since then and Im sorry to say it has gone down hill a lot. A friend and I visited a few weeks ago and were left depressed by the whole experience! The usual assortment of old and young local drunks make up the punters and couldnt have been less welcoming. Conversation seemed to consist of fart gags and specualtion about which member of staff the landlady is favouring. We felt very uncomfortable and left after one watery ale. It cant seem to decide whether its an old mans pub or an artistic persons front room and the fact that it was virtually empty on a Friday evening means it will probably go the way of so many local boozers. A pity because it used to be a cosy place, but I wont be returning for another couple of years.
