The Lord Nelson, Colchester

Now if there was ever a shite heap, this is it. How this pub has ever survived is beyond me.

To give you an idea - imagine your front room, and now image it with a bar, some optics and a few pumps. Add yellow ceilings and walls, a little "c**t this and f**k that", and you've got the Nelson.

The Lexden Crown, Colchester

One of my more preferred pubs - seperate eating and pool areas, a bit small, but generally OK. Not bad if you've just left the A12 and require watering!

The Sun Inn, Feering

Nasty place - full of Horray Henrys.

The Shepherd and Dog, Langham

Excellent establishment. No jukebox (this pub is not designed with this in mind). Excellent quality food and drink with amasinly friendly staff who are very polite. The homemade food is of the best quality in the country I am sure and is reasonably priced. It's a shame the pub is out in the sticks a little (suggest you get a cab for about 10 from Colchester centre). Currently owned by Julian Dicks (ex West Ham player no longer a "Terminator")!

Ye Olde Marquis, Colchester

Top pub. You'll want to stay once you've had your first pint. Great atmosphere, nice land lord, good rocky jukebox and never any trouble. Also a pool table and GoldSchlager. Food is excellent value for money and a mean all day breakfast if great with a pint for "the morning after the night before".

Go there. Now. Do it - get in you car and go for a pint.

Waffles Bar, Colchester

"that Charlie is miserable". Yep, she is and don't swear in there 'cos she'll boot you out (unless your one of her friends and then it's OK to swear!). Honestly, a pub with a no swearing policy own by a Scot. I don't appreciate a lot of bad langauge but honestly what a joke!

Cheap drinks though (although coke is from cans and few draught beers leave a little to be desired). Good atmosphere when busy and regular Karaoke (bit of a venue for Karaoke). No outside seating and little parking.

The Prettygate, Colchester

I like the gate - clean, well presented, plenty of outside seating, nice regulars, good drinks (even Special Brew!), clean toilets, nice staff. Recommended.

The Huntsmans Tavern, Colchester

Not too bad - they do try with pool table, fag machine, cash machine, large restaurent and the usual Hungry Horse type grub. Ross the landlady is nice, as are most of the staff, attracts a lot of builders (wouldn't take the missus there for a night out or a meal becuase of the punters attitudes) but cetainly not the worst pub in Colchester by a long shot bearing in mind its location (Shrub End!).

Have spent many an hour in there over the years so it can't be that bad.

The Drury Arms, Colchester

If you like to get in fights with squaddies then this is the pub for you.

The Artillery Man, Colchester

Nicest pub in Colchester! Owned by a Norwich City guy, SKY Sports, good pint, nicely kept, pool table, fag machine and nice attitude. Recommended.

The Ancient Briton, Colchester

The sort of pub that you can smell the toilets as soon as you open the door. Cold inside with no carpets. Same old alcy's sitting there day after day - two well kept pool tables though. Regulars can bite "what you doin in OUR pub" type of attitide.

The Abbey Arms, Colchester

Friendly satff, good selection of food and drinks. Funny shape (not very big) but has a pool table. Better than some of the crap you get in Colchester Town.

The Railway Tavern, Kelvedon

Excellent place, friendly atmosphere and how pubs should be - there's just one fruit machine and no jukebox or fag machine but plenty of music piped and good quality drinks. The best pint of Stella Artois in Essex!

Nice outside seeting area, very good food for the money, lovely in the Summer. Highly recommended and worth the journey to visit.
