The Montpelier, Peckham

I love this pub, its the best in the area. The only problem is the menu hasnt changed for 6 months which is putting customers off. This is a place you go to eat but the menu is sadly lacking. The staff are lovely as are most of the customers but please guys review the menu! Its got very boring.

The Montpelier, Peckham

I am so so disappointed with this pub. It started out so well and it was a pleasure to have such good food in Peckham but it really is the pits now and the food and service used to be so good. If you order Pork - there is no Apple sauce and the pork was piled on a lot of slush. The beef was on a lot of lettuce and we were told that they didn't do gravy or mustard. We all gave it the benefit of the doubt thinking that it might have been an off day but have decided not to return again. I mean how can they serve a steak without a sauce/gravy/mustard. Or pork on something indescribable without Apple sauce. If you want good food unfortunately go to the Bishop where you get crackling AND apple sauce and gravy.

The Wishing Well, Peckham

Awful pub. I don't know how it stays open, the electricity must cost more than they take over the bar!!

The Masque Haunt, Old Street

The food is typical of a Wetherspoons pub - awful.

The Montpelier, Peckham

Wonderful food, nice atmosphere. Locals please support it. It gives the overpriced Rye a run for its money.

The Wishing Well, Peckham

Warning! Just don't go there. TV screens everywhere. They advertise food outside in great big billboards and there is NO food! Nip up the road to the Montpelier.

The Rye Pub, Dining Room and Garden, Peckham Rye

Try the Montpelier. Lovely staff, brilliant menu and food. Anyone who has avoided it because of past management then give it a try. It has been transformed!

The Montpelier, Peckham

Love it. How refreshing and in Peckham! Nice bar staff, brilliant menu and bril food.Everyone who ignored it under previous management should take a look. I went there for breakfast this morning. The menu is extensive, the food is mouth watering and the interior is great.

The White Horse, Peckham Rye

Wonderful Sunday lunch, the best in South London, friendly staff the only down side being it can take a while to get served. You have to queue to order food and then queue again for a drink. Also please, please manager, will you get some decent red wine, that stuff you service is unpalitable.
I still rate the pub really highly though.

The Yorkshire House, Lancaster

Dreadful place and it used to be one of the best in town, close to the Sugar House and brilliant parties. I was so disappointed when I walked in for a bit of a nostalgia buzz.

The White Horse, Peckham Rye

Sometimes it takes forever to get served.

The Rye Pub, Dining Room and Garden, Peckham Rye

A nice pub in the summer but the place is seriously and I mean seriously overpriced. Whoever wrote that the food was good must have a serious addiction to salt. I had to send my food back as I nearly choked on it. It took hours for me to get rid of the taste of salt.Vastly overpriced. 4.80 for a pint of lager! I mean come on. Im up for enjoying myself but I really dont like being mugged. Lets face it, its not the West End its Peckham. Robbers they are!

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

I don't actually use the pub but last week I went to the restaurant upstairs and the food and service was excellent. Highly recommended.

The Bishop, East Dulwich

I really like the Bishop. I do not understand how it could be called pretentious. The bar staff are friendly, the service is good although I love table service I am reticent to leave my card behind the bar. This is no offence to the people who work there but rather a precaution after several warnings from my bank about this practice. Keep up the good work. The taste in music is good as well!

The Bishop, East Dulwich

How can Mark Fresh say that the Bishop is overpriced and then recommend the Rye!! They charge 6.50 for a glass of Rose' and nearly 10 for bangers and mash. Please.

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

In response to Bandeeterama. A lot of assumptions have been made about my previous comment and my objections to children running through the pub the noise making it impossible to hold a conversation. There were also health and safety issues and we all felt the need to hold on to the table incase the drinks went flying as the children flew past our table! I didnt criticise the staff or the pub and for your information I have 3 children of my own and I am a non smoker. I go to the pub for 'grown up' time and a break from my 3 lovely children. Pubs are for adults and over 18's. If parents want to subject their children to a smokey atmosphere thats their responsibility. Its also their responsibility to make them sit down and behave themselves!!

The Greyhound, Peckham

Avoid it. I accidentally walked into the place one day. Horrible.

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

I am a touch disappointed with the Gowlett. The staff are lovely but it takes ages to get served, i mean 20 minutes on a Saturday afternoon with only one member of staff on who was doing her best. Also it was like a creche, and I mean it, there were kids running everywhere, toys and all sorts over the place. Won't be returning. I had children myself but would not subject them to cigarette smoke, it is a pub after all!! I had to queue in the loos because of all the kids there. Sorry, but isnt it supposed to be over 18's?

The Bishop, East Dulwich

I love this pub. The staff are lovely and the service is excellent. The food is good and reasonably priced. Long live the Bishop.

The Vale Bar, Dulwich

I can assure you that a pregnant woman was refused tap water. I can also assure you that they charge you to use your card (unheard of in any other bar). I was with the pregnant woman and witnessed it and I have no axe to grind or no interest in the pub which I will never enter again. The food is on/off depending on whether they have sacked the chef and it seems that whatever criticism is aimed at this awful place must have a hidden agenda. I assure you I have no agenda and have never worked or been involved with this place. I am fed up because it is the closest pub to me and I am unable to use it. It appears that whenever anyone criticises this place (have you been in there in the winter? Its freezing) it must be a disgruntled member of staff who has been sacked which happens all the time. They treat their staff in the most awful way.

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

I have noticed that whenever anyone makes any negative comments about any of the pubs on this site the comments are considered to be made by competitors of ex employees!!!!

The Vale Bar, Dulwich

This pub is awful. The only thing its got going for it is the beer garden in the summer. Don't go in the winter - its freezing. I think at one time we were starved of good pubs which is why we tolerated this place. Walk down the road to the Gowlett or the Rye Hotel in Peckham - friendly staff, lovely surroundings and the beer garden in The Rye is wonderful. You can use your card in either of these pubs unlike the Vale who charge you for spending money there.

11 Aug 2005 19:10

The Bishop, East Dulwich

I love this pub. The staff are friendly, the food is nice and the decor is to die for.

The Green Man Inn, Preston

The best roast duck on the universe. Also set in a beautiful location and friendly northern charm. Highly recommended but book first as the food is fresh.

24 Jul 2005 13:42

The Montpelier, Peckham

The mind boggles that they can afford to keep it open given that there is never anyone in there. The pub has so much potential with a stage where they could put on live music or a comedy slot. Someone with imagination could turn it into a gold mine.

24 Jul 2005 13:36

The Rye Pub, Dining Room and Garden, Peckham Rye

I love this pub. It has brought Peckham into the 21st century along with the Gowlett. The decor is tasfeful and relaxing. The staff couldnt be more friendly. I was bowled over when I walked in there. The beer garden is great and they have a canopy outside so that you can still be outside in summer even if its pouring down. My only criticism is the price of the food. This is Peckham, not the West End. I mean 8 for a salad in Peckham?? Having said that I love it. Also a special thank you to the staff who are always extremely friendly but never fawning. Good luck to you all.

The Yorkshire House, Lancaster

I used to be a regular at this pub many years ago. I revisited this year and it had changed completely. It was full of crusties, there was a strong smell of sweat and the young people there looked like throw backs from the 70's. So disappointing. Bring back Mike or Cal. They really made the place hop.

24 Jul 2005 13:21

The Wagon and Horses, Lancaster

I have lived in London for 10 years but this pub was always a favourite but then it depended upon the landlord at the time. I also worked there for a little while. There is nothing so bad as real ale drinkers with their cords and beards and their moaning about the head on the beer!! On the plus side there used to be wonderful live music with bands from all over the country and overall I have fond memories of this pub.

24 Jul 2005 13:17

The Ring O'Bells, Lancaster

Memories oh memories. I used to be a regular in this pub when it was run by the most miserable landlady ever to exist. This was in the 80's. She eventually barred so many people that nobody went in. Glad to see it appears to be in revival.

24 Jul 2005 13:12

The John O'Gaunt, Lancaster

Come on! The last landlord used to put up the price og Guinness on St. Patricks Day! Mind you the food is good I have to give you that.

24 Jul 2005 13:08

The East Dulwich Tavern (EDT), Dulwich

We actually got thrown out of this pub for singing Happy Birthday!!! Even though others joined in and we werent offending anyone we were all told to leave, it really was quite unbelievable especially considering the price of the drinks!!!. The doorman barred us. Having never been barred from a pub in 20 years it came as quite a shock!!!

24 Jul 2005 12:09

Bar Story, Peckham

When this bar first opened I was so optimistic. I don't know if the owners have changed or not but when it first opened the staff were brilliant and the food was nice too. It now seems to have lost whatever it had at the beginning and the food is mediocre and expensive. It has so much potential but somehow fails. Go to the Gowlett or the Rye Hotel. These pubs have managed to do what Bar Story appears to be trying to do unsuccessfully!!!

24 Jul 2005 12:04

The Gowlett Arms, Peckham

The Gowlett has brought Peckham into the 21st century. The manager and staff are warm and welcoming, there is no tv blaring in the background. They do organic wines and my only criticism is that the only thing on the menu is pizza. Highly recommended. It really emphasises the fact that Peckham is up and coming!!! About time - we have been starved of decent pubs in Peckham. Try the Rye Hotel as well especially in the summer as the beer garden is to die for. There is a canopy with candles and lights so you can still sit outside if the rain pours. The food is on the expensive side which is why I would only give the Rye 8 instead of 10. 8 for a salad - I mean we are in Peckham not the West End.!!!

24 Jul 2005 11:58

The White Horse, Peckham Rye

The Sunday Lunch at this pub is South London's best kept secret. I challenge anyone to find a better more value for money Sunday lunch anywhere. The rack of lamb is too die for at a mere 6. (Even the Yorkshire Pudding is homemade). It is a family run pub and regulars are treated like VIPs. For the younger crowd pop over the road to the Rye Hotel which has a wonderful beer garden, is tastefully decorated and there are friendly, chatty staff. The pubs in Peckham are really on the up. Also try the Gowlett - again nice management and friendly staff - no TV screens blaring in the background, organic wines and delicious pizza,s. Unfortunately this is the only choice of food which is why I would only give it an 8.
