The Albert Inn, Hitchin

This pub is now well worth a visit, after a period in the doldrums after the long-time landlord retired a few years back. Interior decor is a bit spartan but there are usually two or three well-kept real ales available and it certainly merits a stop on a Hitchin crawl now that the Nightingale is no more. It is also offers the rare retro pleasure of going outdoors to get to the Gents! (although they can be reached without doing this).

The Nightingale, Hitchin

This was a nice pub but sadly it closed on Sunday 25th October 2015. Nearest pub to Hitchin railway station is now The Albert.

The Kings Arms, Hitchin

Sadly this characterful pub has closed (September 2014). Reputedly likely to be turned into yet another bloody restaurant, +/- flats.

The Crown, Hitchin

This pub is, or was, in Stotfold - not Hitchin!

The Sir John Barleycorn, Hitchin

Has been closed since mid-2014, contradictory rumours about any future it may have.

The Sailor Boy, Hitchin

This pub closed down early in 2014 and has been boarded up since then.

The Bricklayers Arms, Hitchin

Ignore previous reviews, this pub has changed completely from its former self (Sep 2013). Reopened as a temple to real ale rather than the previous rather grotty sports bar image. No less than 12 draught ales with a slight leaning towards Banks and Taylor (Shefford), plus usual lagers etc if that's your thing.

The Royal Hotel, Bradford

CLOSED if streetview is to be believed (2013)

Paradise Farm, Bradford

Streetview evidence suggests this pub has closed (2013).

Jacobs Well, Bradford

Still closed March 2013, what a shame.

Delvers, Bradford

Small, cosy place. Only been there occasionally but I'm pretty sure there was at least one real ale available. Quiet during the day but was an ear-damaging hellhole when visited (for a few seconds!) on a Saturday night recently.

The Bridge Tavern, Bradford

Marvellous interior, crammed with horse racing, boxing and "old Bradford" photos and memorabilia. Superb old Hey's ales stained glass panels too. Only two hand pumps but Black Sheep was fine when we visited. Basic bar snacks only but nowt wrong with those. Recommended.

The Brown Cow Inn, Bradford

No food and as previous reviewer says, no real ale. However a decent and extremely cheap pint and very friendly locals. Recommended.

The Black Swan, Bradford

Very quiet when we visited (Sat lunchtime). Lovely old building. Limited choice of real ales but Tetleys in tip-top condition. Food quite superb and excellent value - roast pork dinner was only £4.95 and had FIVE (yes 5) veg, two types of potato, Yorkshire and plenty of good quality meat and gravy. A hard act to beat.

The Old Barn, Frizinghall

This pub closed in 2012 (maybe earlier).. The Black Swan just down the road is worth a visit.

The Rose and Crown, Hitchin

If your idea of a nice pub is one which has bouncers outside most evenings, then this might be the place for you. If not, not.

The Greyhound, Hitchin

This pub is no longer a pub; it closed and became a Chinese restaurant (Dragon Inn) quite a while ago. Does offer accommodation though!
