Running Horses, Erith

We have now moved out of Erith so this horrible pub is no longer our local, though we hadn't been for over 6 months anyhow - big deal.

Reported the pub to the Council but no doubt the smoking has continued and will continue for a long time to come.

When you order your food here (if it's available, normally it isn't), why don't you stick a lit cigarette in the middle of it? Enjoy!

The Anchor and Hope, Charlton

Cycled past this pub quite a few times and noticed it was always busy outside. Was out for a walk recently and decided to venture in...am glad I did. A real gem. Exceptionally clean, very cosy and staff very friendly. Will definitely be back!

The Black Horse, Bean

Been to this pub once and that was certainly enough...what a dump! It was a nice day so we sat outside....even if the weather had been dismal we probably would have sat outside anyway due to the unfriendliness of the locals. Stayed for one drink and couldn't wait to get away. Complete dive - stay well clear.

Dial Arch, Woolwich

Just had another very pleasant evening out at The Dial Arch. Although we live in Erith, we would now consider this pub our local and worth travelling a few stations to by train!!! Friendly staff, very good quality food (we ate in the restaurant this time) and a good selection of ales, lagers and wines. I'm surprised it doesn't have a higher rating. We are planning to move out of the area soon and will genuinely miss this place. Give it a go - you won't be disappointed.

The Phoenix, Denmark Hill

I must admit I'm surprised how low a rating The Phoenix at Denmark Hill has. I've never had any problems with any of the staff and think the food is good quality. Architecturally I think it's stunning. Love the wooden floor and it's so convenient to the train station. All in all, a very good pub. I work at Kings Hospital and hope to use it for a long time to come.

Running Horses, Erith

Given how quickly "water" responded to my original posting, I do perhaps wonder if he/she was one of the delightful locals who graced this "fine" pub on Sunday evening.

We have no doubt the management are well aware of the smoking activities and no doubt either it has been going on for some time, so really what was the point of informing them? The barmaid herself could have kindly asked them to stop. She just seemed bewildered we were actually complaining about it. I'll say again - smoking is ILLEGAL inside public places.

So yes we will enjoy going to other pubs further afield. Pubs that treat their customers with respect and follow English Law.

Running Horses, Erith

Sunday 5th February; me and my partner have graced this pub for the last time, despite giving it MANY chances. What a dump! Last straw came when we noticed one guy openly smoking at the bar on this date around 7pm with not a word said to him...then around an hour later, 3 local people all started smoking at the table. Again not a word said. This is actually illegal. What a joke! We actually approached the group of 3 and asked what they thought they were doing to which they replied..."We're not smoking"!!!!! Lol! So we thought let's go. On leaving the pub the actual exit was locked, prompting the barmaid to let us out. We said to her that we had noticed 4 people smoking at the bar. She didn't seem at all bothered, in fact actually saying to us that she felt threatened. We have photographic evidence to prove this smoking took place and will use it. We certainly won't be back. We plan to move from this area soon and have our flat on the market. It can't come soon enough. The Dial Arch in Woolwich is a classy pub and worth travelling a few stations to, even on a snowy evening like this. Stay clear of this dive.

The Jolly Farmers, Crayford

This pub is DISGUSTING and would easily fall in the top 10 worst pubs in the country. I've posted before. No customer service, disgusting, dirty premises, severe lack of places to sit. Disgusting toilets. Horrible looks by the rough locals....sorry I'm not a snob (but they are). Drunk by 2pm? Not good. Drinks not being registered through the till? No decor anywhere including the walls? Blinds closed, even in broad daylight - people smoking INSIDE the pub...how are they getting away with it..it's 2011!!!! Sort it out people.....it's not deserving of 2.1/10 never mind 5.1!!!!!

The Hand In Hand, Brighton

What a lovely quaint pub!!! Easily one of the best in Brighton

Very friendly locals. I soon was made to feel like a local myself.

Good honest prices too. Cosy. Couldn't fault it. Well done!

Dial Arch, Woolwich

Very nice pub, good quality food and most of the time very friendly staff.

Just some negatives - there are no facilities outside to park your bike. Was disappointed recently when out for a cycle as there was nowhere to safely park my bike and therefore I couldn't pop in for a drink.

Also, at times I have found the place a bit nippy.

These are tiny negatives though. All in all, it's the best pub in Woolwich and probably one of the nicest in outer South East London.

The Camelford, Brighton

This really is a gem of a pub.

Can't believe it hasn't a higher rating.

Exceptionally friendly staff, good quality food and really cosy. Will always make a point of visiting when I'm in sunny Brighton.

Running Horses, Erith

Posted a review about 6 months ago and have since visited the pub a few times. Needless to say, not a lot has changed. I find the language from some of the regulars disgusting. They are also NEVER told to keep the noise down and I agree with a previous posting about a regular group of punters constantly congregating at one end of the bar. They are intimidating and unfriendly, just like the landlord and landlady. I'm sorry but they have no social skills whatsoever, no matter how many times you say thank you and please. Please people, sort it out. It could be a really lovely little pub but it's spoilt badly by this. I can't see me heading back any time soon.

The Rose and Crown, Greenwich

NIce friendly, cosy pub. Good bar service.

The Old Mill, Plumstead

Lovely pub. As mentioned before, don't be put off by the pub's exterior. It's very cosy inside and the service is second to none. Good selection of ales too. Well done!!

Bristol Pear, Selly Oak

This pub is quite nice. Friendly, attentive staff and the food is good too. One major negative though. In winter it is absolutely freezing and a few times I've chosen not to go purely for this reason. Also, it does seem to cater for mostly students. Would be nice if they could entice an older crowd but all in all a nice little drinking place.

The Phoenix, Denmark Hill

Really nice, cosy pub. I work at Kings College Hospital and regularly frequent this pub. The staff are very friendly and the food is good too. Not bad prices for a bottle of red wine. Will be going again!

Running Horses, Erith

This place is a bit hit and miss to be honest. I live nearby so essentially it's my local, but it doesn't feel that way when you walk in. More often than not I feel awkward when ordering drinks at the bar. Not on every occasion but some occasions, I have been completely ignored and when finally served have found the staff to be unfriendly. I have noticed staff members drinking alcohol whilst on duty both at the bar and even taking their drinks outside and joining groups of people who are celebrating one thing or another which brings me to my next point - I find the music is played much too loud and at least once a weekend there seems to be some sort of stag/hen do or karaoke, so not really the place to go for a quiet pint. Sometimes the locals CAN let the place down to, using bad language and really loud with it. This behaviour is mostly just ignored by the staff, not on every occasion but most. I'll continue going but as I say very hit and miss. I don't expect much from it.

The Bridge Lounge and Dining Room, Tower Bridge

My partner and I took advantage last night of the 5 'bangers and mash' deal. Before that, we had a few drinks. Good selection of ales and they have cider on draught. Drinks were reasonably priced. I found the staff extremely friendly and attentive. After ordering, we were served our food within 15 minutes - very impressive. The quality was fantastic too. Would not hesitate in recommending this pub to anyone.

The New Cross Turnpike, Welling

On entering this pub I was very impressed, good selection of drinks, friendly staff, nice surroundings. Now for the negative comments. It is a large pub and there is only one toilet situated near the back on the top floor. If you're sitting on the balcony at the front it really is quite a walk. They should definitely have more toilets. Also, I went on a Friday early evening, however it seemed to attract the wrong crowd after 8pm that night and I got the feeling the pub experiences trouble, especially at weekends. All in all, a nice place but don't think I'll make a point of returning, unless I'm in the area to begin with.

The Cutty Sark Tavern, Greenwich

I really like this pub having only recently discovered it. It feels really authentic inside and I love the way they've made use of the barrels as chairs. Good selection of wines and beers and a fabulous location on the river with views of Canary Wharf. Had yet to eat there but I'm sure I will soon. Keep up the good work guys!!!!

The Jolly Farmers, Crayford

This is easily the worst pub I have ever been to. I was out for a walk with a friend and decided to call in one Sunday afternoon. The locals shall we say gave us a very unfriendly and disapproving look even before we'd set foot in the place. It didn't get any better. Customers were smoking inside the pub. We visited in 2010 so the owners are breaking the law letting their punters smoke. Also, drinks weren't being rung through the till as the till lay open the whole time we were there. No pictures or decorations on the wall. Was approached by a very drunken woman around 3pm who made quite a fool of herself. She was there with her family, lots of whom were smoking. It was smelly, the service was unfriendly and I would never set foot in the place again. The cafe around the back looked like a real greasy spoon with a dirty paddling pool outside and an overturned children's swing. I wouldn't drink in this place, let alone eat in it. Won't be recommending it. Stay well clear. Also on a final note the cars for sale around the back look really dodgy. Enough said.
