The Volunteer, Theale

Visited today to an empty pub. It was so very cold in there I think this may be part of the reason. Drinks are expensive here and they do not even fill the pint to the top! Poor show.

The Black Horse, Reading

One of the best pubs I have ever visited! Beer is very good, rolls are the only food but very good. Welcome is super friendly and all the other customers are so lovely.

The Alehouse, Reading

Dirty pub with a lazy manager. Could do better. Freezing cold in winter as the door is left open. No food and dirty toilets. Probably the worst pub in Reading.

14 Dec 2018 14:26

The North Star, Steventon

Probably the worst pub I have ever been in and I have been in thousands. There is no food offering at all and both staff and customers use the F word about twice in every sentance. The woman that served us was off hand and unhelpful. When asked what ales were available she just said that they were on the door. They were not.

16 Jul 2017 18:17

The Victoria, Tilehurst

This pub just gets worse. They were offering rev james yesterday but all I got was doombar 3 times. The manager and staff are useless.

The Victoria, Tilehurst

This pub has changed manager and now has an absentee manager. He is hardly ever there and does little work when he is. The pub is often running out of various drinks and is left to the staff to run.

29 Jan 2014 14:37

The Nags Head, Belgravia

Total Pratt Kevin supplies the comedy for a pub worse than any other I have ever entered. Worth one visit to see how bad it is, but I doubt you will want to return.

The Red Lion, Theale

Unfortunately closed at the moment. Ceased trading.

The Antelope, Poole

Nice clean and comfortable pub. Plenty of food but small ale range although in perfect condition.

17 Aug 2011 16:15

Spotted Cow, Poole

Fairly basic clean but unexciting bar with a pool table. Food served quite pricey. Grills, steaks, burgers, baguettes & jackets. Pleasant staff & customers.

17 Aug 2011 16:02

The Brewhouse, Poole

Sells some beers that it brews itself. And they are good. But that's about it. No food and not a lot of charisma. Smokers stand inthe doorway letting their smoke pollute the pub. Foul language at the bar.

17 Aug 2011 15:28

The Castle Hotel, Caernarfon

The Old Bell, Henley-on-Thames

What have they done to this pub. They have covered the entire pub including the beams in white paint. Awfull decor. Looks to be on its last legs. Only one other customer in here at the height of Henley Regatta.

22 Jun 2011 15:06

Bar and grill. At 2pm I bought a pint of brakspears with no trying to get me to buy a meal. Very pretty barmaids. Lovely place. Food looked good but I had already eaten

22 Jun 2011 14:21

The Argyll, Henley-On-Thames

Very nice pub but expensive drinks. Almost 4.00 for a pint. "Please go slowly round the bend" is a sign on a corner in the bar.

22 Jun 2011 12:30

Three Tuns, Henley-on-Thames

Polish Gospoda, Reading

On our visit there was no draught beer. There were no other customers except a few girls and a guy. the girls went off with men who came in. This is a knocking shop for prostitution.

19 Jun 2011 18:51

Victoria, Oxford

Good pies made by Newitts of Thame but unfortunately served dry, without the rich delicious gravy described on the menu. Interesting pub with a balcony. Poor selection of real ales but some unusual lagers. Model aicraft hanging from ceiling.

15 Jun 2011 14:01

The Honey Pot, Oxford

Rubbish. Pub was completely empty in the middle of lunchtime. The one barmen was using the actual bar to do some paperwork. place looks tatty.

8 Jun 2011 13:28

Three Goats Heads, Oxford

Interesting and unusual interior. No real ale.

8 Jun 2011 12:22

The Crown Inn, Oxford

G ood selection of beers. As with most Nicholsons pubs I have tried short measure is the speciality of the house. Food looks good. Pub is infested with those little flies that go in your beer.

1 Jun 2011 14:50

The Eagle and Child, Oxford

One of the most famous Oxford pubs, the Bird and Baby was the pub used by C.S.Lewis, J.R.R.Tolkein et al. for many years, and also a haunt of DCI. E. Morse (presumably more so in his disastrous days at St. John's). A Nicholsons pub with their usual poor service and short measure.

1 Jun 2011 14:44

Ye Olde Maydens Heade, Kings Lynn

I could not finish my beer because of the flies that kept flying into it.

30 Apr 2011 16:55

Ye Olde Maydens Heade, Kings Lynn

We have come to Kings Lynn for a weeks break. Unfortunately we have not found any pubs that we have liked and this one is no exception. King Lynn is so run down I do not think it could support a good pub.

30 Apr 2011 16:03

The Crown and Mitre, Kings Lynn

Only a mild and a weak bitter available on our visit. Mild was very good. Very expensive 5.75 for a mild & a coke.

30 Apr 2011 14:31

Wenns, Kings Lynn

Empty on our visit on a Saturday afternoon, but with music far too load for comfort. Only one ale available, slightly hazy IPA.

30 Apr 2011 13:21

The Lattice House, Kings Lynn

nice pub with plenty of atmosphere. Our visit was spoilt by very slow service, repeated short measure and bar staf that were really not up to standard.

30 Apr 2011 13:04

The Elephant Hotel, Pangbourne

The beer was good and served well. The Sunday roast was very poor with tough meat and next to no vegetables. I have eaten better for less than half the price.

20 Feb 2011 16:19

The Hobgoblin, High Wycombe

This pub no longer has free wi-fi. but what it does have is a very unfriendly and rather rude femail person behind the bar. It really needs someone with a bit of personality.

15 Jan 2011 11:46

The Hobgoblin, High Wycombe

Now closed, future uncertain. Does any one have any news?

18 Oct 2010 08:24

30 May 2010 18:15

The King Henry V, Monmouth

This pub was closed down years ago

30 May 2010 18:12

The Magpie and Parrot, Shinfield

We went there on Sunday 23rd May and we were surprised that we had such a rude welcome to the pub. Doug, the barman(not the landlord) offered no greeting at all, not even hello, and served our drinks in complete silence. The pub was nearly empty, not surprisingly!

30 May 2010 17:55

Queens Head, Reading

Not much real ale here, a choice of only two of which one was OK. This was a Sunday, when they had a barbecue which consisted of inedible stale rolls with a tiny sausage just bigger than a cocktail sausage. Aso available were pork ribs with enough meat on them to feed a mouse. Dont bother!

30 May 2010 17:46

The Gate House, Monmouth

Very bad service in this pub. Served with a cold coffee with cream. They used pudding spray cream eventually as they did not have any cream. This just went ibto globules.Ordered a panini but got a baggette instead with no explanation. Complained but no apology was given. AVOID THIS PUB.

17 Apr 2010 20:32

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch

Beer (London Pride was exceptionally good) and the pub was warm with a good open fire. But where are all the customers? No food was available. We were there from 5-8pm and there were hardly any other customers.

14 Jan 2010 21:59

The Black Horse, Emmer Green

A great little pub. One of the best I have been in.

14 Jan 2010 21:52

The Travellers Rest, Caversham

Beer is good in this pub and very reasonable prices. The food I have tried a few times is fairly poor and I had today a Steak pie that did not have a scrap of meat in it at all. It had just a jelly like paste which tasted of salt. Probably the worst meal I have ever had in any pub.

14 Jan 2010 21:47

The Victoria, Tilehurst

Ordered a pint of Pride. It was vinegar. Don't bother if you like good beer.

25 Nov 2009 21:16

The Crown and Tuns, Deddington

Not a pub at all. This restaurant offers quick service but very average food. We went on a Sunday and tried the Sunday roast. There was plenty of meat, very tender but more like braised beef than roast. The roast potatoes were soggy and tasteless while the veg was boiled out and also tasteless and with no texture. The poor meal left us hungry and we had to stop off at another pub for food an hour later.

25 Nov 2009 20:01

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch

Decidedto give it another try but sadly no better. Slow service and cloudy beer is not what we need.

20 Apr 2009 17:42

The Fox and Hounds, Theale

The pub has now been refurbished an looks very nice. The beers are the same as before but much more expensive. In fact the drink prices are the dearest I have I have ever come across. There is no jazz night any more on a Tuesday night which was a big attraction. This pub is best avoided unless you are very rich and like paying high prices for very ordinary fare.

18 Dec 2007 17:11

The Tylers Rest, Tilehurst

Has now been taken over by new chain. Sizzling pub company. Beer is good and cheaply priced. Food cheap but slow and inaccurate service.

24 Nov 2007 16:46

The Plough, Tilehurst

Dreadful. What has happened to all the pubs in Tilehurst

24 Nov 2007 16:42

The Victoria, Tilehurst

Dreadfukl. No real ale, smoky with bar surrounded by smoking, swearing louts. Don't bother to go here.

9 Mar 2007 18:04

The Tylers Rest, Tilehurst

Very poor bar food, The sharer meals were not sufficient for even one person, despite being advertised for two. The sweetcorn tasted of nothing and was soggy, I suspect it was tinned or frozen. I have tasted far better efforts with twice the content at lower price and with fresh ingredients at Wetherspoons pubs.

27 Nov 2006 22:23

The Flowing Spring, Playhatch

Very poor service as the staff are reluctant to even appear behind the bar. Visited Sunday April 17th 2005, long wait to get serverd even though no one else was waiting. Short measure seems to be a speciality on pints of London Pride.
