The Ostrich Inn, Colnbrook

Rumour is they just got 3 out of 5 as a hygiene award, which means "Generally Satisfactory".

Food must be much better than their beer, that's all I can say!

Funnily enough, Colnbrook Immigration Removal Centre, which helps repatriate unwanted immigrants, got 5 out of 5.

Dear Phillip,
you asked me to come into your pub. You asked me to retract my previous review because your bitter was perfect. You refused to allow me to taste your "perfect" bitter.
I have never called you a French wanker as I am certainly no racist. You on the other hand apparently cannot keep real ale or accept criticism. I cannot make it any clearer to you or any other user of this website. I want a pub which offers:
A nice drinking environment.
A nice selection of good quality drinks.
Good hygiene.
You fail most certainly on the first two. Do you really think I would want to come and drink in a below aveage environment with rubbish beer just because you can clean glasses? Sorry but I do not.
Please be assured that I have no interest in drinking in any establishment you manage.

Two years ago I posted about the Ostrich. Then the manager banned me! All I wanted was to be able to drink a decent pint of beer in a nice environment.
Last week I was asked, through an intermediary, to rescind my earlier comments.
I visited the pub and spoke to the manager. He asked me personally to apologise for my "erroneous" posting and said if I did I would be "allowed" to return to his pub.
I asked if the issue he had with keeping real ale had been resolved. He told me it had. I asked to try the beer. He told me that if I posted a favourable review on the beer, I would be allowed to come in and drink it!
I explained that I cannot post a review on something that I have no knowledge of.
So I guess I am still banned.

Ye Olde George, Colnbrook

So it is two years since the spineless c*#t "tankardman" posted. Probably in jail now.

Anyhow, Stuart has taken over as manager since the departure of Jim and Cindy and the pub is still here!

Real ale is perfect. Currently Doom Bar and Courage Directors are being sold which are both served perfectly. Food is good honest pub food at prices which do not hurt the pocket.

Definitely worth a visit. They do not charge the prices of some other local establishments but they do offer the service. All the staff are a credit to the pub and actually do give a damn about their customers.

The Star and Garter, Colnbrook

New management.
Too soon to post a full review but the Courage Best was served perfectly.
At 2.95 a pint the price was great too.

Scott ran this pub for about 3 ? years.
Great team of staff.
Superb beer and okay food.
Prices were steep but helped keep the riff raff out - Apart from me :-).
A French bloke took over and destroyed it in as many days. Beer is crap and undrinkable. Still charging 4.50 for a lager that has yeast in the lines.
All the real ales have a haze which is conducive to a cellar that is too cold.
Have tried to advise the new manager but the w**ker knows best!
So, after the Ostrich being in the top position for so long, I have to say "Shit pub, shit beer".
What a shame.
At least the furniture in the bar is ready for the pub to be turned into a library when the french tosser gets sacked.

The Royal Stag, Datchet

As previous comments state, this pub has been recently taken over by the Windsor Pub Co. I have never been a fan of pub chains (however small).
The beer here has always been fairly good and there has never been a problem swapping beers over in the case of a dodgy one. For the non-beer drinking fraternity there is also excellent Guinness and a good selection of lagers as well as a very good selection of wines. Definitely not a choice of red or white here!
Quiz nights on Tuesday are enjoyable and extremely competitive.
I have had several snack meals here recently and found them to be good.
They have recently cleaned the place up. The antique champagne boxes in the walls have been cleaned up and the black and white paint has been removed.
I think it is a case of watch this space to see how this pub develops.
I am certainly not anti-Welsh, being part welsh myself however I am quite glad to an improvement all around since the previous manageress has left.

The Alma, Windsor

I recently visited this pub as it was recommended by a friend. A few years ago this was not the best pub in the world.
What a change!
I had a truly superb pint of Wychwood's Hobgoblin.
The friendly welcome by the Landlord made the pub.

It is a breath of fresh air to discover that the trend is reversing. The sterile air of the managed pub and Witherspoons ilk has definitely not reached as far as the Alma.
No parking in the pub but street parking nearby - beware the residents only bays though!

Ye Olde George, Colnbrook

I have been drinking in this pub for the last Decade.
After Dave left it went down.
Enough said.
Now that Jim and Cindy are running the place, it has come back up.
Real Ales, which are my priority, are superb.
Bombardier and Adnams are perfect.
Beyond that, Jim has a real talent for understanding the difference between the occasional request and what is best for the pub.
The upshot is, if you like a real 'local' pub with decent service, then this is the pub.
Thursday night is open mic' night.
Saturday has live music.

The Five Bells, Horton

Yet another anonymous contribution from someone who cannot spell! Does anyone remember when this website used to be about rating pubs, not insulting other contributors?
This kind of proves my point about the kind of people and conversation in the pub.
Do you really have nothing else to do but insult people?
Remember. I was asked to leave after uttering that immortal phrase: Shit beer, shit staff and shit pub.
Nothing changes.

New owners.
Same old shit.
If you like manufactured food, manufactured people and manufactured conversation then I recommend this pub.
If you like real people in real conversation then drink elsewhere - like me!!

The Crown Inn, Horton

The pub is the same as it was two years ago.
Food is reasonably priced pub grub.

Despite the anonymous comment made on 17 September, this is not a "gays pub".
It is a pub where anyone is welcomed. If the person who made that comment spent more time concentrating on their diction and less time worrying about their sexual inadequacies then I am sure they would benefit.
Just to make the point, this is a public house (or pub), not a "bar". A bar is the place inside a pub. You and your boyfriends are as welcomed as anyone else

The Dolphin, Blandford Forum

Ten real ale pumps - Heaven!
Eight beers on the go all at once and all in superb condition at reasonable prices.
Despite being a reformed smoker I really did not notice the smoke.
Quiz nights on a Thursday are a great laugh.
Definitely the best pub in Blandford.
No food in the evenings otherwise this pub would have a ten.

The Crown Inn, Shaftesbury

Nice pub. Good beer - had "King and Barnes" Sussex ale (brewed by H & W) as well as the usual Hall and Woodhouse offerring.

Service is fine.

The traditional pub atmosphere has survived a recent refurbishment.

Ship Inn, Shaftesbury

Be very wary of this pub.
The beer - all Hall and Woodhouse of course, was average.
The customers only three on this occasion and all "regulars", are theives.
I had a very nice Zippo lighter with the England Rugby rose on it and the date 2003.

A member of staff asked to borrow it - I agreed. Then it was passed to another customer and I never saw it again.

The staff have no shame.

The Punch Bowl, Colnbrook

Nice pub

New landlord a few months ago. At last we have bitter which is good!

London Pride is simply superb and the Courage best takes some beating.

Friendly staff, good service. A real mix of people.

Good quality reasonably priced Thai food.

The Five Bells, Horton

Many people think that the previous two anonymous comments were written by me. So I decided that I should post a comment.
I do agree with the first two comments.
I was "barred" from the pub five years ago for complaining about poor beer.
Over the last five years I have been joined by an ever growing number of Five Bells outlaws. This includes many neighbours and villagers. I can no longer comment on the quality of the pub from first hand experience however I gather there have been no improvements to the place since my exile began.

The Narrow Street Pub & Dining Room, Limehouse

I have just moved into the area. Did the rounds and liked this pub. Slightly pretentious it may be but it is still a very welcoming place.

The food was excellent and so was the beer. As for having no where to sit - I am sorry but would you prefer a pub that is empty?

If so there are plenty of places nearby just waiting for you!

The Crown Inn, Horton

Traditional Local pub.
Big screen which shows all Rugby, Cricket and football matches.
Nice traditional bar food and one real ale on tap.
A bit smokey and no dogs allowed.
