The King Edward VII, Stratford

Well, what a difference a day makes - a week or two at least. Went in on Saturday, having not been in for ages and didn't find any of the problems that lilchris did. Staff were attentive and friendly, three ales were on- Eddie's Best, Bombadier & Tribute - and the Eddie's was fine. Never really noticed that the prices were any higher than London in general, and I do notice the exceptions having been fleeced for 4.25 recently in a Sam Smiths pub for Weiss beer !
Overall my mate and I had a very enjoyable experience in the three hours or so spent here. Look forward to going back soon.....didn't encounter any 'undesirable elements', although the happy throng of Halloweeners who came in looked a bit fierce...

The Palm Tree, Mile End

Popped in around teatime earlier in the week, a friendly welcome from behind the bar, and excellent beer to boot. Landlord quite happy to chat about his beers and to elicit opinion on what we thought of them.
Nice atmosphere, excellent beer. Always worth a visit. Apparently opens at 12:30 on weekdays.

The Harp, Covent Garden

Worth taking a pair of boxing gloves to fight your way to the bar when it's busy ! However when you get there, don't despair, as you won't wait long for a well kept beer due to the excellent staff. This pub has gone from strength to strength and deserves it's popularity - always a pleasure to return...
Thanks......

Ye Old Mitre, Holborn

Popped in a week ago on a miserable grey day. Once inside here spirits revived - haven't been in for a while but still the excellent gem that it was. Beer in excellent nick, friendly efficient staff and topping it off unpretentious and good value food. Still the toasties are going strong...!! A credit to the manager, staff & Fullers, if only all central London pubs were this well run.

The Eleanor Arms, Bow

Hospitable, well kept beer and excellent quality well priced food ! Not had such a pleasant afternoon in a pub for ages, in a word it's everything a pub should be......hang on that's six words - but it's true so we'll leave it at that....
Do yourself a favour and pop in.........

Deal Porter, Rotherhithe

Went past on Tuesday, late afternoon, it was closed but revamped with outside seating / decking. Looks very food orientated but very tidy and opened up with certainly a Hobgoblin Ale on plus what looked to be 2 others. Has almost reverted to original name of Three Compasses, now called ''Compass''

The Angel, Rotherhithe

Nipped in yesterday on a walk for a swifty and was very impressed with what Sam Smiths have done to the place - having not been in for a while. The brewery's own Weiss Beer was excellent, but I was drinking this due to SS's usual lack of cask ale. My colleague was more than happy with his keg Old Brewery Bitter but it's just not to my taste.....please, please, please could we have the cask version more widely available in London ! Overall though certainly worth a visit if only for the excellent pricing policy - where else in central London can you get two pints for a fiver......

The Clipper, Rotherhithe

Popped in yesterday for a beer and a bite when walking from Greenwich to the Tower and had a very pleasant experience. I know the area reasonably well but hadn't been through in a while and despite the exponential growth of the ubiquitous flats in the area this pub has retained it's friendly and local atmosphere. Both beer ( London Pride ) and food were good and reasonably priced. A lot of the local pubs don't feel they can open till teatime so the fact that it was open at all was a big plus. The place is well run and staff friendly - do yourself a favour and nip in for a swifty....

The Blackfriar, Blackfriars

Went yesterday for a pre Christmas beer with some other old buggers like myself.... This is one of those pubs that has been improved immeasurably by the smoking ban as you used to have to cut your way in through the fog ! I never thought I would be saying this as I thought the ban would remove all the atmosphere from most pubs. In the case of the Blackfriar the atmosphere remains as do the friendly barstaff - who'll probably now live 5 years longer - and the excellent beer and food. Oh and it's a bit of a looker as well!!! Recommended.

The George and Vulture, Hoxton

Went here a while back on a Saturday night, I now know why Camra have rated it so highly over time.. best pint of Pride I'd had in along time...staff excellent, friendly 'local' atmosphere. Me and the mates will be back soon...

The Palm Tree, Mile End

Cant agree more with comments posted so far - an oasis in what is a desert for decent non-theme 'pubs'. Good service, good beer, good luck to 'em...
